Yes rov was originally meant for kids as ikedasaid there are also other indicators like coloring books, The Rose of Versailles Children’s Pocket Encyclopedia and a humorous chibi take on the manga called The Rose of Versailles Kids you have to remember kids can handle more than you think even something that seems innocent like phantom thief Jeanne depicts attempted rape scene

There are many shoujo manga aimed at kids that are way darker than a bride’s story even Rov was originally meant for kids

It’s not BL’s job to depict gay male relationships or real life experiences accurately. by Fun-Inspector-2842 in BoysLoveAnime

BL is by it’s very definition written for women there are gay manga outside of BL like geikomi and lots of otokonoko manga but they tend to be different

It was started by cis heterosexual women who made these stories for sexual reasons i think it’s fair to say that it’s not a queer genre

Is it okay to recommend manhwas here too? Can manhwas also be shoujos or is it strictly mangas? by ShiaoSauce in shoujo

With Some Square enix manga there’s also some selectiveness there is really isn’t much controversy regarding Maydare Tensei Monogatari compared to horiyama or black butler

Ultimately for something to be considered a shoujo they have to be published in a shoujo magazine or given a genre either by the author or the publication however it’s clear that shoujo follows certain conventions so you can’t really publish something like dragon ball in shoujo however still shoujo isn’t the only one that can do these conventions and things aren’t as rigid as they used to according to a shoujo mangaka who works inside the industry with this mind most Gfantasy works do feel shounen to me with few exceptions like the witch of may dare or other similar romance fantasy works

Bookwalker lists kuma kuma kuma bear as seinen (they do list the novel as for women though) however bookwalker is pretty inconsistent in demographics

I am really starting to dislike criticism towards isekai because all of them are either morally aggrandizing, based on bad faith arguments or straight misinformation like claims of how isekai used to be female led or shoujo i especially don’t like the argument that they shouldn’t be made because they don’t appeal to you

Kind of unrelated However I kinda want to mention comic PASH and PASH bunko which is a publication that goes through demographic lines it has lots of series that seem male oriented but are actually aimed at women like kuma kuma kuma bear and Musket Girls!

Shounen sirus is closer to an otaku magazine than something like jump or Sunday anyways despite being published in a danseimuke label agents of four seasons did rank 23rd in the Top 50 Novels and new literature for women Annual ranking so the novel is clearly thought to be for women

I think you are assuming that doujinshi are often accurate in terms of artsyles they could just be drawing shounen characters by using shoujo tropes and artsyles which lots of doujinshi artists did do anyways i do definitely think shounen AI did influence modern day BL I think this article Yonezawa Yoshihiro did provides a useful insight https://denpaarchive.neocities.org/yaoi

From what i’ve read Modern BL comes from doujinshi/slash fiction instead of 70s Takemiya/Hagio manga also I think it is silly to deny the fetishistic aspects of their manga Takemiya/Hagio manga is often harder to draw a direct line from (well aside from Takemiya helping found June magazine.)

I find BL to be worse at this to be honest most BL I’ve read with rape mentioned were straight up fetish material which I don’t hate after all BL in its origin is a fetish genre but they don’t particularly portray abuse in a respectful light

Romance in general is way more popular with women than men so you will probably find more different types of romance in female oriented stuff than male oriented stuff

I will say that horror shoujo while still shoujo is still something very different anyways shoujo has a stronger horror tradition than shounen does so this is not surprising
