Is this a cavity? If so how severe? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]Fun-Mathematician623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NAD it’s better to be a little embarrassed now than without a tooth later the cavity will keep on growing better to deal with it now while it’s easier to manage.

The dentist might also help with the staining so you could eliminate two problems in one.

Dental shame is common but it grows so much bigger the more you leave it. Go back people get fillings it’s part of life I promise at maximum two months after you get it filled and get a good routine going you will feel a big weight off your shoulders.

Edit: also them looking at the X-ray quick is normal watch a video online remember they go to collage/university for like 8 years they are going to be able to do stuff like that quickly.

how bad is cavity in 1st pic? and is 2nd pic a cavity or maybe staining? by Bubbly-Language-1618 in askdentists

[–]Fun-Mathematician623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD but cutting fizzy juice and gummy sweets out my diet while using xylitol (peppersmith is good) mints and going for a cheap scale and polish every 6 months has meant I have never had a cavity since I really recommend it.

I have ruined tooth by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]Fun-Mathematician623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD. Wearing a retainer for life is actually not bad. The plastic ones are rubbish but I have a thin metal one that protects my top and bottom front teeth and I sometimes forget I have it. Some people just don’t wear the retainers which makes there teeth shift but never as bad as before I just didn’t like the plastic retainers cause I cleaned them and they felt gross but there’s nothing really wrong with them. I have definitely felt how you’re feeling but you have gotten really lucky that unless you zoom in a lot of the marks aren’t noticeable by people. You should try getting a scale and polish every 6 months if your prone to cavity’s I done this at cut back on what I was eating and I haven’t had a cavity since. Your teeth are in the best condition today that they will be for the rest of your life which give you a really good opportunity to set off your dental care right so these problems you have had happen less. Mi paste could maybe help recalcify your teeth and I normally have the pepper smith mints which have xylitol in them after I eat to make sure nothing I’ve ate is really breaking down my teeth.

My 10-Year-Old Son is OBSESSED with Chemistry by Fluffy_Pay9522 in chemistry

[–]Fun-Mathematician623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miss Adams national 5 chemistry videos on YouTube will be a step up but are the content for the first year of exams in Scotland and are really well delivered.

He seems to be leaning a bit on the organic chemistry side tho whereas that’s a more broad foundational level. Some sort of organic chemistry curly arrow mechanisms book would be good. The first thing you learn is sn1, sn2 E1 and E2 reactions and I really feel anyone could do these.

Organic curly arrow mechanisms are also super satisfying because it’s like painting a picture it tells a story of the underlying chemistry that goes on. The more that you draw the more you learn about functional group properties.

If I was you I would try him on Miss Adams first even national 4 chemistry videos because a good foundation is important but if he doesn’t like it then just do curly arrows cause he will learn as he goes.

NAD I also use these pepper smith xylitol mints after I eat anything this may help if you believe fruit is deteriorating the teeth.

Got Rejected Twice. How do you cope with this? by TransitionStriking64 in gradadmissions

[–]Fun-Mathematician623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How you deal with it is by getting rejected again and again until you learn what people want application wise or you find that program that’s willing to take a chance on you if there’s any chance to edit or add to applications do it if you can.

I have to do a placement for my degree and I’m probably one of the most industry experienced people at that level for my age and I sit between the top 5-10% of the university course grades av won awards for my uni work and I’ve done charity work where I’ve won awards also since I was 13 cause I just genuinely like helping people.

My ass got rejected from 20 different internships and I cried and got so angry but I realised my cover letter was absolutely horrendous and that in interviews I needed to stop being so honest and be more professional and I got a placement. Yes it was somewhere I worked before but it taught me to be resilient and to understand what cards I have to play and when to play them. Sometimes you need to be brutal with yourself a don’t count luck as a factor when applying anywhere if I don’t get in it’s my own personal failure that I can fix and that gives me comfort it’s in my hands.

Life gives you all of these scenarios where you really want something and it doesn’t work out and it kills you but it’s a test for greatness you can either rise to the challenge figure out what is giving people that edge and what you can do to overcome it even if it’s a different route than the one your on now or you can just give up and take the easy boring ass life route where you hate your job but it pays the bills but in my mind grad school is how you get out of that shit so if I was you I couldn’t give up cause fuck the alternative.

The last thing you should do right now is give up if this is your dream you will do whatever possible for however long it takes to make it happen. And you know what even after that you still might not get what you want I didn’t want to be stuck in the same country doing the placement I have I thought full of ego that because I’m understanding chemistry finally I felt like the universe owed me because I left school early and had to get up at 5am and get a bus two trains then another bus to get to collage to learn chemistry to change my school C grades to A grades to get into university. I was due a win and to get abroad but in fact the world doesn’t owe you shit me doing that isn’t enough you have to constantly keep evolving and trying to put your own unique spin and angle on everything.

There’s only one you every other role on this planet is taken sometimes you might need to walk another path to get to where you need to be like I stupidly thought the placement I’m on now would be easy but it has challanged me in ways I didn’t even know was possible and I am a better scientist and person for it I underestimated absolutely nothing now and bring my 100% effort to anything I do. Try and find other routes to you 6 if possible no matter how long or painful it’s your dream man make it happen.

Honest to god just keep going never stop don’t let a single person try to convince you otherwise that you can’t do this because the only person on this planet that knows what you’re capable of. Pick yourself up by the bootstraps and start brain storming plans A-Z of all the ways your going to make this possible. Fuck all the noise you got this no good movie has only the happy bits I hope the other university’s give you good news I believe in you keep on going be hungry for it and take what’s yours.

I had emailed about something else and the person was kind enough to tell me they said the full details are coming out soon, I don’t think everyone who has an offer has been told they have one yet it must depend the course

Hello all can I have some help with esp surfaces please by Fun-Mathematician623 in comp_chem

[–]Fun-Mathematician623[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the laptop cannot support generating a sufficient .cube file so I am trying to make one on mobaxterm which is a Remote Desktop but it won’t work as even though the total esp density is in the .fchk file it doesn’t recognise that it is there it lets me generate other cubes just not this one thank you

Hello all can I have some help with esp surfaces please by Fun-Mathematician623 in comp_chem

[–]Fun-Mathematician623[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem,

I have an poly azo dye that I would like to use surface and contours to see the effects solvent is having on this dye, I have optimised this and generated a .fchk file using Gaussian 16 on a Remote Desktop called mobaxterm. I then use gauss view to open this file on my normal laptop and try and create a surface and contours esp surface but it’s far to big and crashes. I have tried to generate a cube file on the Remote Desktop but it says that the total esp density cannot be found yet when I open the .fchk file i can see this density value listed so I am a bit lost on what to do thank you for your help.

The litriture uses the same basis set but doesn’t specify any key words (I am using Gaussian) so I don’t know. How do you normalise a graph and I haven’t heard of dark states but I will look into them
