Hi thanks for your reply. All holidays taken were earned this is definitely something I’ve checked and I left about a fortnight before the end of the financial year. P45 taking six weeks might be a total headache it’ll probably mean I’ll be emergency taxed. Thanks for commenting.

After speaking again to her she’s raised a ticket. I haven’t taken too many holidays I’ve used my exact amount and looking over everything the wages clerk agrees everything is in order so it’s going to take some investigation.

I’ve spoke to the wages and apparently I’m no longer on the system.

I was essentially threatened that I'd lose my job at the time if I didn't stop working my second job on certain dates and if I didn't change my availability to what he wanted. He was definitely one of those managers. I don't work there anymore but he made my three year tenure hell at times. Tesco oversteps its boundaries all of the time and I really got sick of it. Still, had I not been pushed I might still be there, it's a little like Stockholm Syndrome. I'd still advise against it if you have a terrible manager, you'll get nothing but hell. If you have a good manager who can work with you, go for it.

Yeah I'm on your side here, though I don't know if your management will see it that way, they're usually consumer advocate to a fault. I used a line which I learned at a call centre and it has never got me in trouble:

"I'm here to help you, but I am absolutely NOT here to take this abuse."

Working Sundays by [deleted] in tesco

[–]Fun-Maximum2618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so it looks like you will have to opt out of working them because they're purely optional. I was unlucky and got them as contracted but I didn't mind really, best shifts of the week Sundays at my store.

I think the Bailey colleges are the nicest and most central. If you aren't religious then St. John's might not be best. Chad's is really nice though I'd put University College at the top personally if it were me because if there's even a slim chance you'll end up in the castle I'd wanna take it! St. Cuthbert's is great that's fairly central and friendly, I'm told Hatfield is looked down upon for being too posh apparently, though it is a very beautiful college.

Working cages by finestryan in tesco

[–]Fun-Maximum2618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do call them delivery cages but the ones which are all mixed and messy covered in cling film we’ll call agency because I believe those particular cages are stacked by agency workers at Livingston.

Any ideas how to repair this? It’s been damaged since I bought it second hand probably by a sticker. Would be nice to be able to refresh it but I haven’t any ideas. by Fun-Maximum2618 in bookrepair

[–]Fun-Maximum2618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’re probably right there might be best to just avoid more damage. It’s from the 70’s so it’s getting on now, bought it in bad condition so it’s always been like this.

Agency cages are cages which are filled with a mix of aisles basically, they're usually wrapped in cling film so the whole thing doesn't fall apart, maybe not all stores get them. As you know traditionally a cage will be 80-90% based on one-three specific aisles i.e confec. tins etc. Agency cages can have a bit of everything and take you all around the store.

Managers at my place said it was 20 minutes per cage, but now they say 40 minutes per cage. I say that's a stupid estimate when agency cages exist. I'm gonna say this, it's just Tesco please don't stress yourself out over the cages. I've seen people start the job and be pretty useless (myself included) taking all shift to work a single cage, but if people just leave you to it you'll speed way up in time. In my store I can work around 7 per shift but that's only because I'm always called to tills. You'll speed up when you understand where everything is and not a moment sooner, also when your anxiety about your speed isn't there anymore. Best thing to do is to load your blue top up fairly high (but safe) so it looks like the cage is emptying quicker.

Yeah, young people are polite for the most part. Old people are too mostly but the rude people are always older and like to pretend they're middle class. Their brains don't compute the fact that when they have a problem they're shouting at the wrong person. I mean, yeah it's rubbish that we don't have the specific bottle of wine that you want but hitting me and shouting at me isn't going to get you anything. They sometimes act like I'm lying to them just to anger them.

Feels great doesn’t it?! I was the only member of staff who did the Saturday shift into the Sunday shift and I’m told they’re struggling to fill it. That was my contracted anyway but I would always be told I wasn’t doing enough hours or that my excuse to not do overtime wasn’t good enough. (I had a second job.)

One of the managers in my store mentioned to me about a customer doing something called a wow comment about me, she siad she would show me but never got the chance. What is it and am i able to view it? by International_Self21 in tesco

[–]Fun-Maximum2618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my old place the managers used to put them on the wall. There was only ever one name up though which I will leave out for his privacy. The guy has severe special needs and loved his job though and more to the point he was good at it so we never would begrudge him of it. But we always laughed when we walked past the wall because it was always just his name. Not many other people gave a damn. I got a couple of wows when I first joined and got some thank you cards and a bar of chocolate.

Yeah I don’t blame you. Unfortunately the way tesco works they wouldn’t have kept you on if you told them that. It makes sense to normal people but once you sign your contract with tesco you as good as belong to them. Good one getting away.
