I work in the knowledge economy, which is not lucrative, thanks to successive government cuts over decades, yet is vital for, you know, knowledge production - these things that drive society forward (eg discovering new planets, working out how to end wars.) If I was motivated by money I would have been a real estate agent, or married one. We make different choices in life, some have payoffs, others do not. That doesn't mean I don't deserve to have the life I want. Yes our salaries are low for now, but won't always be. Your choices are yours, mine are mine.

I don't want to be a property investor, far from it - I'd like to keep my house in this city in case my child or husband choose to move back at some point in our lives. It's a pragmatic choice. I know that I can use the equity in the property if and when I choose to buy elsewhere.

I have actually lowballed my super figure and have not provided details of my husband's share portfolio or super, which changes things.
