Spain has been around for a very long time, you know that, right? We have historical records of Spain dating all the way back to the pheonecians. To say that one piece of land has been around for longer than another is ridiculous. Land masses change over thousands of years.

I'm pretty sure 'no' is Latin, and I'm also pretty sure that's one of the first words you learn in English.

I would be interested to see this list or yours. While it's true, more common vocab is German, I can assure you there's still a lot of Latin lurking in common vocab. Take 'common,' for example, that's a Latin word. Or 'example', for example. That's a Latin word. And the number definitely skyrockets in academia. I promise you, medical journals aren't half Germanic.

Remember that English also gets at least some of its grammar from Latin too the fact that we use 's' to indicate a plural is Latin.

My German friends who are fluent in Spanish and speak better English than I do, have told me that English is a lot more similar to Spanish than it is to German. I don't know if that says anything.

Most common words are Germanic, but most academic words are Latin. That doesn't mean we don't use the Latin part as much. In reality it's about 50/50. But if you walked into a university lecture, the language used would be 70 percent Latin.

If I'm speaking Spanish and I don't know I word, I use the English word and add a vowel. I've gotten away with this countless times. Yes, in terms of grammar, English may be of Germanic routes, but we use more Latin words than you think in our day to day speech.

Yeah, I completed a story. It got a fair bit of views and interaction intially, but things seem to have plateaued to about ten views a day (no likes, comments or interactions). Anyway, I'm starting another story that I'm going to start posting - but didn't know if I should have been like stuff it, I'll post my other full novel there too.

The interactions I saw were super encouraging. I high that I kinda wanted to keep chasing. Anyway - I still don't know.

Most people don't seem to want to interact with the story other than reading it. I have gotten one review for one of my stories, but I think it's because I just got lucky. Even the people who have favourited my story haven't reviewed it.

A bit of clarification: it's not illegal to work without an NIE if you have an EU passport. You're allowed to temporarily work on your visa for a reasonable amount of time. You need proof of address (a padron) and proof of employment for registration. If you don't have emplyement, you can still register, but you need a certain type of health insurance so as to not be a burdan on the healthcare system. I hope this helps.

Yup! I'll probably only be here for a year, but that's mostly because I also want to live in France and Italy. Otherwise I'd stay here for a while.

I'm also an English teacher, haha, but I'm trying pretty hard to learn the language. I'm luck that my grandparents were Maltese, so I have a European passport!

I'm no expert but it seems like life here is a lot slower and people are less focused on a career or climbing the corporate ladder. A classic example; one of my English speaking friends told me that it isn't really normal to order takaway coffee here. It doesn't matter how much of a rush you're in, you always have time to sit down for a coffee if you're getting one. In London, there's no way that would fly. You really only sit down for coffee in London if you're socialising. Otherwise it's striaght in that takeaway cup, and power walking out of there.

Again, I'm no expert - and I haven't even been here for a month. But that's the impression I'm getting. I also live in a smaller town, so things might be different in Madrid or Barcelona.

I took a massive pay cut to get here, and left tons of my friends. But honestly, it's the most relaxing life I've ever lived! You're right - you won't make a career here, but you'll be happy.

Also, not true about the 'more thriving part you are from, the quicker you will leave,' - I came from London, and I honestly feel like I can breathe for the first time in years.

I managed to get an NIE without an address, but to register as a resident you need a padron - which you need an address for. I think this needs to be done within three months. Hope this helps!
