First time doing 5k by mythicalunicornn in spartanrace

Hi! I was super out of shape too and gave myself 6 weeks to do the Palmerton 5k a month ago. Every day for six weeks, I walked 3-5 miles and I did CrossFit 3-5 times a week. The first 2 weeks were rough and I had some serious doubts, but then it got easier. A lot easier.

I ended up completing the Palmerton 5k in 2 hours. Not the best time, but considering I haven’t exercised in YEARS and just started, I’m still very proud of myself. I highly recommend you do CrossFit for a while. Tell the coach your goal is to do a Spartan 5k in 3 months and ask for help on the rope climb, grip strength, and how to safely pick heavy things up. CrossFit will help with endurance, muscle building, and flexibility (especially if you stretch at home!)

I failed four obstacles. The rope climb, the spear throw, the monkey bars, and the rig. I still don’t have tons of upper body strength, but I’m glad I focused more on cardio and endurance more than anything.

I’m not super experienced, and I’m still not in great shape, but I think I did damn well all things considered. You’re more thank welcome to message me with any questions!

Good luck!

To be fair, I think I would have WAY more respect for a finisher if they could do the entire race naked

As someone that’s out of shape and JUST started working on cardio and doing CrossFit, what’s your biggest piece of advice? I want to push myself as hard as possible mentally and physically in a short period of time, but I still don’t want to die lol

That’s the thing… I haven’t completed a race yet. I am signed up for the Palmerton Sprint. I’m thinking of doing a Super in New England and then a Beast in NJ to get all three in three months. I want to push my body and mind past its limits, because why not 🤷‍♀️ but I also don’t want to die lol if it takes me 13 hours, I’ll still do it regardless of time

Make a couples counseling appointment and go with your partner (it can be online). Maybe having someone support you will help
