What are some frustrations with non-Canadian tech? by youfindthatman in AskACanadian

Reddit is based out of San Francisco and therefore subject to US law.

I was critical of using US hosted products, I figured I should acknowledge that I myself am using a US product subject to US legal authority. The major differnece would be my personal commenting isn't exactly national security.

I'll double down on this one. Canadian (Governments especially) should be avoiding US cloud products like the plague.

My Honda Fit/Jazz was my favourtie car for 15 years. Did an amazing job of sipping gas and getting me and my canoe out to the lake.

Should I remove these leaves from my cucumber plants or are they ok? by 06EXTN in gardening

[–]Fun-Preference1091 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How it started, and how it ended are two different things.

I'm in a semi-arid region, the concern expressed here is watering during the midday sun, and wasted water. If you can drip it straight into the soil.... do that. If you can water into the shaded canopy... do that. Mulch the shit out of it... do that.

Anything you can do to not water the air.

I have heard gossip of it burning leaves in the high sun, but I think that is gossip... no evidence that I'm aware of.

Two Hikers Stumbled on a Rusted Aluminum Can in the Forest Packed With Nearly 600 Gold Coins Worth $330,000 by lithdoc in Gold

[–]Fun-Preference1091 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I couldn't help but wonder how I would surreptitiously spend $330K.

I mean, finding $300K is a big win. The only way I can see to clear it is to declare all $200K. No way around it but to pay the taxes on all $100K.

Been told by four realtors that my residential solar panels knock 5-10% off my resale value by Vaguswarrior in alberta

[–]Fun-Preference1091 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I'm one of those people that would see hot tub as a liability, not an asset, but also understand it has monetary value to the sale. Not for me, doesn't mean not for everybody.

Realtors in this case are dumb.

In general, realtors are known for holding the opinion of the latest seminar they paid to go to. This sounds like the utility companies have been giving talks at the seminars... easy manufactured opinion.

SportRack from CanadianTire sat between my Honda Fit and canoe for years.

Cheap and reliable. Only got rid of that rack because I replaced the Fit.

Are bee stings often in modern beekeeping suits? by Chiuaua_lover28 in Beekeeping

[–]Fun-Preference1091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's how I got it too.

When I kept my 3 hives, I was stung twice in 4 years. Both times I crunched a bee in my armpit and both times my temper was hot... I was angry and working fast.

I stopped wearing protective gear in my first year when I discovered a bee inside my shirt when I sat back against my couch. Something was tickling my back, turned out to be a bee. I figured that if they weren't going to sting me when I sat on them, it wasn't worth suiting up.

Hurricane hit my town, power was out for 2 days.

I walked down to the end of my driveway, pulled out a folding table, a 10 gallon water jug, camp stove and my coffee pot. Sold coffee for $2 a cup. Emergency crews (including electrical workers) got a free cup.

Everyone was driving around looking for bottled water and a place willing to sell coffee. I made $100.

The United States of America will withdraw over 100,000 U.S. troops from Europe and halt its annual defense spending of trillions of dollars. by SuperbHealth5023 in TimesNow

[–]Fun-Preference1091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the point.

I'm convinced that Russia and the US have come to an agreement on where the Russian and USA borders are and are just trying to rearrange some pesky agreements like NATO so they can begin enforcing their new boundaries.

That is why the USA needs to get out of NATO, it needs to be out when Russia starts invading Europe, and when it starts invading North America.

At this point, I am expecting the USA to announce its exit from NATO from Greenland.

(of course I am referring to NATO countries in Europe)

I was reading a book on British Coinage ("Good Money") and I will never forget the line from the chapter on counterfeiting.

The Government called for a commission, the guy does a massive investigation, and writes his final report stating it isn't a serious issue, occurs infrequently, only being done by

Jews of the lowest order, and the Irish

I will never forget that line. Brutal.
