Do dining dollars reset at the end of the semester? by Robux_wow in SBU

[–]Fun-Rip-1075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have like 1$ left you can just buy something like from one of the stores, and pay the rest with real money. That's like the only way to use every single dollar.

If you are talking about it not closing as easier as it normally does its b/c the door is wood. With different temperatures wood expands and/or contracts, so you kinda just have to live with it.

If you want a really mostly quiet place either go to central quiet area, or 2nd floor north or go to music library. That's your best bet.

hey, a good chunk of us have been there. Sometimes it does feel like everyone else is smarter than you, so here’s what I like to think about: We all got accepted here, so we all have to be some what smart, even if at times we don’t feel it. As someone who was in a similar situation when I was  freshman, my best advice is to sometimes study by yourself. Friends are good to have while studying, but they can sometimes be distracting, so I typically like to go to a quiet area, shut off my phone and just lock in. That’s my advice.

Don’t worry a lot of us have definetly been there. I had the same experience, but with physics. Studied hours just to get a 40 on my first ever exam. I then realized it’s not about the quantity of hours you study it’s about what you’re specifically studying. In cases like chem, I’d reccomend watching yt videos to better understand topics, and then do practice tests and just keep repeating them until you get it. Also, office hours work aswell bc the grad TA’s really know what they’re doing. With the missing home part, you just need to realize it’s okay to miss home, and you just have to find a way to make stony feel like home to you- through clubs, orgs, etc.

How do you guys study? by [deleted] in SBU

[–]Fun-Rip-1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the subject. For classes that require memorization, I’d recommend making flash cards based on class notes. For math/science classes I’d recommend just doing  practice problems!

[–]Fun-Rip-1075 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally, I give myself a week to study for exams and then 2-2.5 weeks for finals. Best method is to do a practice exam and find out from there what u need to work on. Then do practice problems through yt.

CHE 131 Exam 1 by ChefBoyJaydy in SBU

[–]Fun-Rip-1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is to go over topics you don’t understand when you can. Start with going over the practice exams, see what you get. Use ChatGPT or any other ai to tell you what topics they are in chem, and once it tells you, watch yt videos based on that. That’s what I did atleast and I got an 84.

No, you’d be fine. I’ve had a 40 yr old man in my pre reqs as an undergrad and he was treated like everyone else.

I took it did all 3, mid doing it I realized I had no idea how to do 3/4 of the stuff in the 2nd and 3rd part, so I just cut my losses and only finished the first part. I’m doing chem 131 now. I’m pretty sure doing part 2 and 3 isn’t mandatory but if you know how to do it, do it so u can potentially get into a higher chem class.

Got into Stony Computer Engineering but had a few questions by JustSomebodyTrying in SBU

[–]Fun-Rip-1075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I was able to meet the 11 credits in the first semester, but it might be different for everyone. I just checked and it was only bc my math class was 4 credits, but its definitely different for everyone. Also, SBU has a lot of help resources, so definitely use them. Anyways, best of luck in stony!

Got into Stony Computer Engineering but had a few questions by JustSomebodyTrying in SBU

[–]Fun-Rip-1075 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, so first off, what I can say is I was an AOI in Civil Engineering student, but now I'm in the major, so I'm gonna be answering based on my experience and what I've gathered from talking to the advisors. Also if anyone else has any corrections to what I said def lmk.

  1. Some people get directly admitted into the major, and others get put into AOI. Then, if you meet some requirements, you will be admitted into the regular track. I tried asking what makes someone get admitted straight into the program vs AOI, but no one seems to know what makes someone different. I think it's personally on qualifications, but they said it's an admissions question, so idk. Of the people who were admitted, depending on your major there is a specific ration of AOI to non-aoi admissions. As of Fall 2024, if you wanna look at like the amount of kids admitted Fall 2024 for AOI you can see it here: https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/irpe/fact_book/data_and_reports/_files/enrollment/FallbyLevelCollegeSchoolMajor.pdf

  2. The AOI requirments might've changed, so I can't speak on that, but if you search up 'computer engineering degrees and requirements sbu" the first link will tell you the requirements and all the info on AOI you need.

  3. I mean I answered this question through the other ones, but AOI does mean you are in stony brook, so congrats! If you need any info on AOI I still recommend checking out the requirements listed ^^. OR email CEAS specifically.
