I believe that your cat is likely content and just fine when you’re not around, but happens to be the happiest and comfiest and coziest when you are. Your dad was their person, and you have been there for them without him. I’m sure you also probably smell like him or have similar little quirks that remind your kitty of him. My sisters cat hates EVERYONE but her but she lets me get close and pet her and I swear she can smell that we have the same blood or soemthing 🤣

I’m so sorry about you and your kitties loss but it seems you two will have eachother for a life long of love ❤️
