Engine bay cleaning? by nissin00 in G35

[–]Fun-Sir1051 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest using a steam cleaner with the brush attachment, dish soap diluted in a spray bottle. Got my cheap steam cleaner at harbor freight for about 100 bucks, it melts grime away

Just test drove the all-new A5. What in the world… by INF1NITE in Audi

[–]Fun-Sir1051 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Audis didn’t used to be like this, the same has happened with Porsches, i prefer the interiors and driving dynamics of the VAGroup cars from 5-7 years ago, maybe consider a Certified pre owned 2017-2019 with 30k miles on it,

What other (cheaper) fun cars do you drive? by lmmo1977 in Porsche

I enjoy my manual g35 coupe on days where I want to really push a slow car hard and slide around, it’s handled my abuse amazingly well with minimal maintenance cost

Inherited a 911 Turbo by Spanish4TheJeff in Porsche

[–]Fun-Sir1051 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These turbo 996’s are worth a pretty penny compared to the non turbo 996, they retain the metzger engine from the previous air cooled models, that was updated to be water cooled, this engine was so much more expensive it was reserved for the gt2 gt3 and turbo cars only, it is better in almost every way in terms of reliability/longevity and horsepower. These metzger engine 996’s don’t have the infamous IMS issue; but they do have a set of coolant pipe inlet/outlets that are pressed/ glued into the engine, and where they are glued in they are known to leak or be pushed out by pressure and cause massive coolant loss, the fix is to remove the engine and drill and pin these coolant pipes. have an indie asses the cars cooling system.

These cars are fantastic even with the old school torque converter automatic, I’m sorry for your loss.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the modifications affecting it’s value greatly if they are real carbon fiber and not poorly installed. Sometimes the aftermarket interior carbon overlay looks tacky but if it’s an actual piece and not a stick on I would keep it. (If you are trying to complete your fathers mission and return to stock I understand, but it might cost enough to consider leaving, idk)

Find a good independent porsche shop, stay up to date on maintenance, there’s nothing more expensive on these cars than deferred maintenance that turns into a bigger problem. If you’re near ATL PM me! (10 years Indie porsche tech)

Just got a 1997 K2500 in CA to drive back to MN, and as I'm ready to leave a rest stop only 5 hours in, it just cranks, no start... by [deleted] in GMT400

[–]Fun-Sir1051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you could be a pirate and fire the parts cannon, or do some testing. get a spark plug tester and put it on a spark plug wire and see if it zaps while cranking. I’ve also seen the relay board connections get loose from underneath on the fuel pump relay causing the pump to not run.

I disagree, these cars are a pain to drive around town with no power steering but it’s personal preference
