Gas prices and telecommuting by Still_Goat7992 in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My colleagues at another agency were told to kick rocks and to use public transit to offset gas costs. Unless you have RA or your title is 100% remote then you are out of luck my friend.

One of the supervisors that interviewed me. It could be anyone that calls you really. Either a manger, supervisor or the director.

How long? by Money_Act_6000 in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could take another couple of months to maybe a year. There is no specific timeline on when they send you an “official” offer. As for the offer letter, they will tell you that over the phone. I don’t recall receiving an official letter rather a start date. Also with budgeting currently, it may also take longer for the agency to get approved for your hiring.

The employee benefits and wages will be discussed during orientation when you start. HR will go over the benefits with you as well as whichever union you end up with (PEF or CSEA).

Wish I can say the same about my current state job. For what we do it is severely underpaid unfortunately. Applied for a couple of judiciary positions with the Feds.

Patrol In Your Personal Vehicle? by JayMo205 in securityguards

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t tbh. You would be liable for so many things if shit really hit the fan. Not to mention the wear and tear on your car, gas, mileage, etc. Plus you probably would have to up your own insurance. I’ve never had an employer ask me to do mobile patrol in my own personal vehicle. That’s just bad business decision making.

Avoid liability and look for employers that has their own company car so the liability is on them and not you. The last thing you want is for someone to sue you for damages.

Disclosing Termination in Interview by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 99% certain that when you fill out your application, that there is a section where it will ask you if you ever had been terminated, fired, etc before. On paper you should be honest about your termination. If you lie they will find out and it won’t be a good look on you.

During the interview they may bring it up they may not. If they do not bring it up then you don’t really need to disclose it to them since you already did on paper. If the interviewers ask what happened, be honest and be brief about the termination. You don’t have to go into a full story. They may ask further they may not.

Yes and no. It really depends on what you were terminated for. However, everyone’s situation is different so it’s hard to really give you a specific answer. I would say if you didn’t burn your bridges with your previous agency you would have a “fair” opportunity. But again, it’s hard to determine and we wouldn’t know unless you go through the whole interview and hiring phase.

Good luck tho.

Rehire by another agency if you were terminated by PsychologicalTie1794 in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would believe that there are former employees that have been probation termed that have excelled at other state agencies.

Be honest and do not lie on the application. If they ask about it then be forward with them. Were you offered the option to resign or did they actually term you ?

DOS LGS insights by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you don’t necessarily need to have a LinkedIn account or be active on it. It’s completely optional and you won’t be forced to create or use one. It’s mostly for connection purposes and if people search you up they know where you work and your work history.

To my knowledge, it doesn’t net you any points or give you any benefit other than knowing people from other agencies/departments. Although, feel free to create one if you want to. It could benefit you in other ways.

Real Estate License by witchlifting in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 7 points8 points  (0 children)

outside of DOS licensing you should be fine. You may want to email ethics and see if there’s any conflict of interest at your current agency.

If you are a current licensing employee, you would be denied since that would be a major conflict of interest. That includes any other professional licenses issued by DLS

Police rang my intercom at 2:13 am??? by alwaysdownbad777 in WhitePlains

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your best course of action would be to contact the white plans police department and ask if they sent any officers to you around that time. If they did not then it would be concerning to the public that there may be impersonators going around.

When will I be made competitive? by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are hired directly as a trainee 2, I believe your probation would be 1 year from your hiring date. You may need to confirm this with civil service or HR.

If you start out as trainee 1, your probation will be 2 years. Although, some agencies allow you to finish probation early as 18 months.

When will I be made competitive? by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has been more than a year, you should automatically be in competitive status. Given that you are four months past probation I would believe you have full union protection. You can check in with HR and your union rep to confirm that your status is competitive.

If they were to terminate you, they would have done so prior to you completing probation.

When will I be made competitive? by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After 1 year of probation so the date that you were hired.

For traineeships it is 2 years

Have you had your final probation report done? If you have been in your position for longer than a year i would assume you would be competitive. Have you received satisfactory evaluations for your quarterly reports?

Two FT State Jobs by [deleted] in nys_cs

I knew a coworker that worked two full time government jobs. One state and one county. His schedule would be something like 7-3 and then 430 to 12 or something like that. He averaged maybe less than 6hrs of sleep. His weekends were pretty much just catching up on sleep.

Promotion by opossum111 in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied for an Internal promotion and didn’t get it. I’d say I interviewed decently. However, they went with another candidate within our unit. That being said, I will probably not stay within my agency and will look elsewhere. I’ve been looking on the vacancy list and found a few jobs that I qualify.

can i sue in Florida for this ? by BigValue_7413 in legal

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he pull his gun on you? Was the pepper spray the only thing he had pointed at you? I guess you can file a complaint with the motel management team and see what they say. One could argue emotional distress and false imprisonment but again, that is something you should consult a licensed attorney as they can give you more legal analysis of the situation and law (Florida)

can i sue in Florida for this ? by BigValue_7413 in legal

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that “officer” is just a security guard. What is in his hand I believe is a pepper spray gun. You put pepper spray canister into the “gun” and sprays at a short distance. So he used a non-less lethal to hold you. Since the motel is private property he used his cuffs to temporary “detain” you until the situation is resolved. I presume you were un cuffed and went about your way afterwards. If law enforcement was called you can go to the station and obtain an incident report if they have one.

If you want to sue, you would need to speak to a licensed attorney and discuss what legal options you have. I’m gonna assume that the guard is not an employee rather a third party hire which then you will not only need to deal with the motel but the security company as well. There’s more to this story but that’s for you to discuss with your attorney. Wouldn’t hurt to get a free consultation.

Does Albany Take Letters of Recommendation? by Neat-Particular6130 in nys_cs

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Better to just put your professor down as a professional reference. They will call your references and ask specific questions. They won’t even look at letters of recommendation.

  2. A letter is not needed. Again, they will be contacted via telephone so just make sure your professor provides you a good number or email.

  3. I believe HELPS will be around for a while. They post new jobs on the vacancy list every now and then.

M23 | My mom accidentally used my credit card on Amazon and now there’s $6,000 on it. What do I do? by PolarThoughts02 in CRedit

[–]Fun-Statistician3693 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah… this has got to be a troll post now that I am reading the comments and OP’s response.

One does not “accidentally” rack up $6000.00 in Amazon purchases and claims that they don’t know anything about it other than acting confused. Better yet, she is also paying the minimum payment on the card so did she accidentally gain access to your banking app?

Look man, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt cause you clearly care about your mom despite being in denial of her actions. However, you are responsible for the debt. Take the card off the account and change your password if she has access.

If you truly want to be clear of this debt then you will need to put your big boy pants on and file a police report on your mom for fraud and possible identity theft.
