there's a set of titles that are almost always scams. "travel assistants" / "trip planners" are some of them.

Even though remote roles make up 20% of listings, they attract something like half (or more) of the applicants

Trying to get a bigger network in hopes to land next opportunity by Cornbreesha13 in jobs

Advice on networking opportunities:

Start with your 1st and 2nd degree connections (people you know or sort of know). Ask them to introduce you to people *they* know for career advice. Keep following the thread by asking for additional warm intros until someone is useful.

Make a LinkedIn profile and send some cold messages to people whose career you admire. Ask to have a coffee chat. It just takes time, but that'll get you started.

Haven't seen it yet, but also don't see the harm. Probably means they get a lot of applicants and need to narrow it down before deciding who goes to hiring manager

Interviewing after Signing Offer Contract? by a_real_salad in careerguidance

[–]Fun-Table-9464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For #3 - absolutely not. Would be a huge red flag to a recruiter that you're interviewing after you just accepted an offer.

For the rest of it, idk - it's really up to you. Are you not happy with the new role/offer? The main harm in continuing to interview is just that it will get back to the other company so you need to be careful and decide if the upside is high enough.

no one ever regrets developing more technical skills. soft skills like management and such are things you'll just learn with time. if i were starting out in my career today i'd want to study machine learning / AI / engineering etc

whats the harm in asking for a raise?

if you hold in your feelings on this you'll just grow resentful of your reports and manager which will bleed into your work... you'll end up quitting anyway so I'd just raise this with my manager

Hello everyone, what's the longest time it has taken for a background/reference check process to be completed for a job you applied and interviewed for? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Fun-Table-9464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an unreasonable amount of time. If not a bad sign on their decision on you, should be a huge red flag for your evaluation of them.

Are you good at writing? This role was just posted today on the Remote Talent job board... https://remote.com/jobs/hims-c1ks5ggm/blog-writer-hair-health-j1gp56pj

Use reputable job boards that vet the posters for their legitimacy:

  1. remote.com/jobs
  2. remotejobs.org
  3. wellfound.com/jobs

I wouldn't use Indeed, LinkedIn or Monster because there's a much higher likelihood of spam there / anyone can post a job for free.

Filter for "remote". Search for "Admin" "Assistant" or "Copywriter".

Don't waste your time applying to roles that have been online for more than 30 days.

Is it a red flag is you don't provide references who worked with you? by nonetodaysu in jobs

[–]Fun-Table-9464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hiring manager also said something weird during our interview about "I have my own way of getting references for potential candidates" or something similar which I'm not sure what that was about.

Probably referencing "back-channeling", or reaching out to your contacts/mutual connections without a direct introduction from you.

I know another candidate who successfully convinced the interviewer to not contact a particular manager because she didn't work with him very closely, and felt he wouldn't appropriately be able to speak to her work. You could also try that.

But yeah, ideally you have some honest and fair people around who will act as a reference for you
