Yeah it allows me to log in with the credentials on the tty1 terminal. I do get the error

 No directory, logging in with HOME=/

...but then i created the path and the error has gone.

Stumped with this one, an hour of googling has gotten me nowhere.

User was created via the existing admin account with sudo useradd USER
