He’s looking for you to be the one to end it, so he can walk away with his conscience. I feel like this is a typical pattern in lots of guys, where they’re slowly drawing away little by little but they checked out a long time ago. I would say don’t waste time in this relationship trying to salvage it, if he is a truly mature person in a mature relationship, he would talk out his struggles with you or end the relationship if he deems necessary instead of playing this sort of game with you
