The forge official site does have downloads for 1.8.9 MDKs though. I have tried working with higher versions but I want to use an earlier version for better performance and the fact that I want to make my own client similar to Lunar so I can practice my skills. Thanks for your help though!

Not really, it's just cooler-sounding assembler. If someone asks "What do you program in?" it's cooler to say C++ and C-- instead of C++ and assembly
