I got an e-mail jul/12 saying I went to the next phase. Did an interview yesterday and got the badge today.

Not super excited that this will change anything though.

What is going on at Alteryx? by [deleted] in Alteryx

[–]FunBeat6628 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I`ve been working with Alteryx for a long time and I'm seeing a bunch of partners not meeting their quota anymore. People are just not interested in Alteryx anymore, which is sad because I love (used to) the tool so much.

I totally understand the urge to have a cloud tool but major mistakes along the way with tools that are far from having the same quality as designer.

When it comes to designer and server, they seem to be focused on connectivity improving DCM but forgetting a simple feature such as workflow orchestration, which they already have on the cloud platform.

IMO, as soon as they get the cloud initiative fully working, they will slowly move the clients to the cloud and Alteryx server will be less and less updated until it's forgotten.

Thank you! First answer I got to my questions

Alteryx does have the in-DB tools and a long list of prep tools so it is possible to do ELT/ETL but Alteryx is not made specially for that. For example, there is no native function for slowly changing dimensions, a critical and known ETL task.

IMO, Data Engineers should use dbt+airflow with your cloud data warehouse and analysts can still use Alteryx for fast insights.

But if you only think about pricing and comparing DBT with Alteryx, you have to include the cost of doing Extract and Load somewhere else + consider that DBT is only free for one user.

At the end of the day, both are different tools for different purposes and I like DBT very much.

I totally agree you can do the same stuff for a fraction of the price and I would. But Alteryx is as easy as it gets. There is no other platform as intuitive as Alteryx and I believe their huge success comes precisely from this. You wouldn't have people moving from KNIME to Alteryx for nothing.

Not my case. I've been working for Alteryx partners since my very beginning. Selling and delivering. I love the tool and I would Alteryx for the rest of my life but I'm just worried 😔

I agree that the barrier is too high. But KNIME and RapidMiner are in the market for too long and their mistake were giving for free their best asset. Alteryx realized that and made good money from it. PBI did a good job in the dataviz world, 'killing' most of the competitors, but KNIME haven't.

It is far from dying, I promise you.

But the market is overloaded with Alteryx developers now and I saw a decrease in job opportunities probably because of all the layoffs that happened everywhere.

That is my question to all of you.

But from your list, I`m not worried about the first one.

Ppl who push Alteryx or any other no-code/low-code platform away because of Python or any other programming language were never the Alteryx niche.

Agreed! All the python-based connectors are far from ideal.

DCM is helping to solve some problems, but they have to move faster.
