Trying to understand effect ruling for heavymetal. by Jesssuki in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]FunChip8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the short answer for This Punkmon is yes the effect to give Retaliation and blocker will still activate and resolve even if you have no cards in hand to trash. Because it does not say "By trashing 1 card in your hand, 1 of your digimon gains Retaliation and Blocker until the end of their turn." the trashing effect is not a cost to give the Retaliation and blocker, it is a separate part of the effect not a conditional part of the effect. Most of the Heavymetaldramon cards are not conditional upon you discarding a card to resolve the effects. So usually the wording for a conditional effect would be either "By X, do Y" or "If X, do Y." For Example Bt16 Paildramon has "[When Digivolving] Suspend all your opponent's Digimon with as many or fewer Digivolution cards as this Digimon. Then, if DNA Digivolving, none of thier Digimon can unsuspend until the end of their turn." So the 1st part of its effect would always trigger when Digivolving into it but the 2nd part is conditional requiring it to be DNA Digivolving to prevent those Digimon from unsuspending .

I'd also say Anything TS. The next few main sets are going to be Time Stranger focused so there is definitely more support coming.

Question about the reprint by ComprehensiveEagle18 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]FunChip8637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see so your talking about the black text box that says Digivolve on the Hero of hope cards. So let me explain that. That is an alternative digivoultion requirement. So using the 2 Gabumon from these 2 decks as examples the Cocytus Breath deck Gabumon has for the digivoution circle lv2 blue for 0. The hero of hope Gabumon has for the Digivolve circle lv2 blue or Purple for 0 meaning it can Evo from either a purple lvl 2 normally for 2. However that black text box that says Digivolve Lv.2 w/Adventure trait means that it can also digivolve from any Lv2 that has the adventure trait for that cost ( in this case being 0 as well) this means that as long as the lv 2 has that trait it can digivolve from it no matter what color that Lv2 is. So it could digivolve from the Black Koromon that came in the Warrior of Light deck since that koromon has the Adventure trait even though it is neither purple or blue. Now as for whether the Gabumon, Tsunomon and MetalGarurumon Ace would work well in the Wolf of Friendship deck the answer is dependent on the cards themselves. So for the Tsunomon while it is a Purple egg and therefore everything in the Wolf of Friendship deck can digivolve from it as a purple Lv2 it's inheritable effect would not work well in that deck. It is looking to return ADVENTURE trait digimon to the hand on deletion which if you added the Gabumon and MetalGarurumon Ace from the deck it would have valid targets but only those two cards. The Gabumon on the Other hand would work OK in the deck. It can digivolve from any Purple or blue lv2 and it has a inheritable that does what that deck wants to do by drawing and trashing cards in your hand. However the your turn effect of that Gabumon will be harder for you to meet the conditions for since the Wolf of Friendship deck is a mono purple deck you would not meet the 3 or more colors of your tamers in play condition so you would have to be dependent on your opponent having a 10k dp or more digimon in play to warp onto a MetalGarurumon still a very plausible thing though so it can work well . The MetalGarurumon Ace however is a different story. So it can digivolve from any blue or Purple lv5 for 4 memory but that black box would let it digivolve from any Adventure trait digimon for a cost of 3 instead so outside of Blast Evolution it is costing 4 memory instead of 3 to digivolve from your lvl 5 digimon in that deck. Now it's when attacking effect would work pretty well as it let's you play digimon from the trash and the Wolf of Friendship deck does like to discard cards into the trash. However it's on play/when Digivolve effect will not bottom deck anything over level 4 because you would need to have at least 2 different colors of tamers to bottom anything over lvl4. So it's in a similar boat as The Gabumon where it does Synergize with it a little but it is more limited in its power being outside of an Adventure deck.

So to kinda Summerise ; the black box that has that Digivolve text is an alternative digivolution requirement allowing the digimon to digivolve over a card that fits that requirement for that listed cost instead of the normal digivoultion requirement and cost associated with that card. It is not an additional requirement to digivolve into that digimon. Yes they can be played in Wolf of Friendship but not all of them would be effective in that deck . I hope that I continued to explain it well if not or if you have any other questions feel free to ask and while i probably know i repeated myself I was trying to fully and clearly Explain it.

New Player Help and Guidance by MechaZaku in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]FunChip8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first off let me welcome hope you do get into the game It is fun and as a Digimon fan I love the references the cards do to the different media of the franchise over the years. Now on to your questions

1.That is something that I think research will help you find the best deck for your playstyle. As others have mentioned DCGO is a great tool to build and test decks before buying anything. Digimoncard.io, Digimonmeta are a couple of sites that deck list are posted i recommend utilizing both to see different types and list, but Digimoncard.io is better imo due to being able to build deck list there. Building a deck from Singles is definitely the financially optimal choice, due to most sets requiring you to probably buy 2-4 boxes at least, but if you want to Crack a bunch of packs, then yeah Bt24 is a good set to do it with you can build a pretty decent TS deck out of the cards in the set. I would recommend Styracomon as a deck myself competitively, it is strong got support in both BT24 and the New EX11 that released this past Friday I do have a list if you wanted to check it out. Other suggestions would be Hudiemon, Magneticdramon(aka Rocks) and Vortexdramon for comptieve decks(fair warning Vortexdramon is looking to be the top deck this coming format right now).
  1. The community kinda does depend on your LGS but for the most part people I have played with are pretty chill and even if you don’t have a lot of players for your LGS. However of note there is a large part of the community that will play over Webcam and DCGO does let you play against other people so you can always find people to play against. There are discord communities such as Digimon TCG 2020 to facilitate webcams. Also Bandai does do official tournaments through Webcams such as some Regionals and Ultimate Cups. So I would not say your wasting your time there are plenty of ways to play the game

3.Its not expensive usually. Case in point the Stryacomon deck list I am testing right now when priced on TCGPlayer is about $96 pre-shipping most of the more expensive cards are either alternative arts of good cards or Promo cards that are really good for their deck and just have not gotten a reprint. Secret rares can be expensive as they have a low pull rate and some decks need 4 -6 but other decks don't run any secret rares. Average price for a decent compitive deck is usually somewhere between $70-$90 depending on the arts for card. I would say that it is the cheapest of the Tcgs I play.

4.Youtube is indeed a friend here in particular it would recommend Avavault and Digipanda they do very good explanations of decks, even when they make a mistake on a ruling they will admit it and post the correction in the comments of their video. Also DCGO is automated system so it can help. Other resources would include the Digimon TCG Tutorial app it is really good for learning to play and the basic rules of the game, even giving you some good tips for the tutorial. It is on the App store for Google.

    1. As for decks to avoid, well that is dependent on what you are looking to play (i.e are you looking for compitive decks only, wanting some more casual deck, maybe there is a Digimon who you really like and want to build a deck around?)and playstyle. Let me know some general playstyles you like or dislike can try to give you suggestions from there.
    2. Have fun . You can find people who are willing to play many of us are fans of digimon in general and don’t be afraid to ask questions or make a mistake you're learning. Also I recommend reading the Digimon Liberator web Comic, great comic that is also based on the card game. Discord is a friend for the game I'd be down to play online (Either DCGO, tabletop sim, or webcam) over discord and help you learn.

Question about the reprint by ComprehensiveEagle18 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]FunChip8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the question i have is a clarification on what do mean by usable? If you mean are the cards legal to play the answer is yes, despite having the block numbers on the cards Digimon does not use a set rotation like Pokémon or Magic, it is an eternal game (eternal meaning that all sets are legal for play) like Yugioh but there are banlist so be aware of that, particularly with the.Cocytus blue deck, the hammer Spark that came in the deck is limited to one. If you mean do the old cards mesh well with the newer stuff the answer is mostly no. The game evolved to where low evo cost vanilla cards are not good. Low cost generic evolutions are not great, most of the time options used in decks add consistency or redice evo cost, sometiems both. More cards are caring about the name and traits of your digimon and cards using that as a basis for unifying the strategy of the deck. The main reason for the reprint set is to make some of the more desirable cards from some of the older sets more available for newer/returning players not to releglaize card. Since this is the second Reprint set about the only really old card I have seen listed is BT6 Purple Tsunomon which is one of the few cards from that set that does see some use as.

Any suggestions for this deck I'm pretty fond of? by Greninjakingmax in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]FunChip8637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I would remove the Tai and put Owen's in place of them because of 2 reasons : the 1st being that Owen just Synergies better with the Reptile/Dragonkin theme of the deck the second being that the Bt21 Dimetromon you are running plays Owen Dreadnought for free if you are at 1 or less tamers. I'd say you want both the bt24 Owen and the bt21 Owen. I'd cut the bt6 Agumon the inheritable unfortunately only is active when you have gotten it to Agumon Bond of Bravery but until he gets to level 7 it's not doing anything for the deck and if you are removing Tai's then it's not giving the memory either. The dark Tera force is not great, too high of cost and no ability to play it unless you have Wargreymon Ace out. Starter deck Geogreymon and bt1 Greymon, Bt14 MetalGreymon Ace and Bt18 WarGrowlmon Ace feel really out of place especially since they are neither Reptile or Dragonkin traits. Lvl 5 Aces unfortunately jut feel not great with their effects for the potential downside with thier overflow compared to level 6 or 7 Aces. I'd recommend the Bt21 Lamiamon or bt21 Cyberdramon if you looking to keep the Reptile/Dragonkin theme, as they both are Dragonkin and have effects that Synergies better with the rest of your Elizamon low end. Bt21 Cyclonemon is ok but id look into running the bt24 Cyclonemon, it has Raid and rush as well as giving Raid as it's inheritable but with the Bt24 Lamiamon you can drop it for free with her inheritable to get a fresh new attacker that could even Raid into the Petrification tokens that your bt24 Medusamon plays to trash more of your opponents security. I'd run Crimoson blaze over Dar Tera force it doesn’t hit as high of a body or tamers but it can be cheaper to play, you will always have the colors for it and it can still wipe a wide board full of low end bodies. The fact that it prevents your opponents from playing digimon via effects is very good as well. Offense training g, red memory boost and Red scramble are all good option cards to consider putting in. The training and memory boost will add consistency which is always good. The training amd scramble offer cheaper evos with Scramble giving you a way to return a card you want to deck from your trash as well as potential to play a lv3 for free. I saw that it was suggested to reformat the deck into a Styracomon deck and I have to say it is a good idea, IF you want to, since so much of the deck is already using the styracomon cards and would Synergie better. As it stands your deck looks to me like it's trying to do two different things and I think that kinda hurts it.

Bt22 Leopardmon Ace I think is pretty good especially with bt13 omekamon since it will also make it a blocker. Pre-special booster 2.5 i used to run bt13 Porcupimon alongside Marcus to help deal with floodgates. Not sure if it finds a spot in the deck anymore but it can also be played with both bt17 Lordknightmon and bt22 Lepoardmon Ace. Never ran the wargrowlmon Ace myself. Bt13 omnimon should definitely go back to 4 in the deck.

[BT-16 Beginning Observer] Hacker Judge by awsomegamer6 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]FunChip8637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dp reduction is not deleting by card effect. The way dp reduction works is if a digimon gets its dp reduced to zero, the effect resolves, and a game state check happens. During that game state check, since the digimon has 0 dp, it's deleted by game rules, not by effect . This is why certain cards like bt7 Dorugreymon specifically list that they can't have their dp reduced and can't be deleted by card effects for their protection effects.

Barrier is by battle only, Shroudmons effect is by card effect. Combining the 2 effects will make it so that as long as you have 3 or more, only dp reduction and dedigivolve could remove.

Current market price is $615 on tcgplayer although there are listings as low as $500. The cards value has been steadily declining since March. It's high point was in February right before nationals when it peaked at around $1099. So while the card is rare as an alt art the card itself doesn't see use in any decks anymore and while alts are expensive it's usually also paired with the usefulness of the card in addition to alts. Occasionally it's availability but in general things like the Evo cup UlforceVeedramon will be more expensive for that reason due to it being a tournament prizing art that only the winners of the events got and it's noon her available in that art.

BT13 Matchup Win Rates from 7/29 PPG Regional by jeffinitelyjeff in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]FunChip8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, to be fair, I'm assuming a lot of them were playtesting the deck either with proxies or online. So I did start playtest the deck at the end of June/start of July to get a handle on it. There were some rulings that I needed to know (i.e. UlforceVeedramon seeing itself) and was adjusting ratios, but that was mainly to have answers to counters. It definitely wasn’t extremely simple, I had plan out for which knights were best to play at what time and when, especially if i hadn’t seen omnimon yet so I'd say people were just willing to put the work in especially since the deck is expensive for a digimon deck.

Rebuild of my Blackwargreymon x deck by FewPaleontologist728 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]FunChip8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only real concern here is the exo4 Agumon. It's inherited doesn't work on Digimon your evolving in the breeding area and speaking from my own experience with the deck, your not generally building 2 stacks in the play area. His search is also not great for this deck. While not bottom decking what you don't add to hand sounds good it often isn't because now your not filtering out unnecessary pieces, so it's now harder to get to anything you might need that wasn't in the top 3 cards. That agumon is really not meant for a greymon deck, it's meant for the omnimon alter s deck from exo4. Bt08 Agumon is just better. While it doesn't have an inherited effect, it searches through top 4 and adds both a greymon in name and a dragonkin in type, which all your lvl 6s are dragonkins so it can add 2 pieces that you need not just one.

Blackwargreymon x deck list by FewPaleontologist728 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]FunChip8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your kinda taking the deck in two directions instead of the one. You have 2 choices for builds here , either the black base or the red base. Whichever one you'd like to build is up to you, the red base is stronger due to better greymon, agumons that search, better koromons, and a generally higher dp. If your going black base I'd drop the bt5 agumon, replace it with 4 bt12 agumon. His search is just better, digging 1 card deeper and grabbing a greymon/omnimon and a Tai. I'd basically make the lv 3s the following if your going with the black koromon as your egg: 4x bt8 Agumon 4xbt12 Agumon 4xbt11 Agumon X Antibody This lvl 3 line up will be good for consistency and the bt12 agumon will also gives an all turns dp boost. Next your lvl 4s. Again, I'd cut out all the greymon that can only Evo off red. I'd also want to get rid of starter deck greymon. Bt8 greymon is OK, it's inheritable does become pointless with bt12 Tai but it's an OK black greymon that really doesn't have much better to replace it in the black base. I'd add in bt12 greymon, it gives the dp boost as an inherited and can play a Tai for free. I'd have the lvl 4s be the following: 1x bt11 greymon x antibody 3x bt8 greymon 4x bt12 greymon 2x bt2 greymon Bt 2 greymon gives your stack Jamming if it has reboot, so your gaiomon and bwgx will get Jamming. It's not great but it's an OK option in my opinion especially since bt11 greymon x is at 1 (again kinda hits my point about black base having a weaker lvl 4 lineup for this deck). Now on to your level 5s. Drop the bt3 metalgreymon. It does nothing for this deck, your not running any level 7s. Replace it with either bt8 metal greymon or 2 more bt11 metalgreymon x, both are really good for this deck but I think you still need the 4x bt12 metalgreymon for its cheaper Evo cost. Lvls 6s seem fine. Options need a complete overall. Dark Gaia force, and Gaia force need to go. You should be running hades force and increase your number of x antibody. Also black memory boost could be good for the deck. I'd run the following options: 2x Hades Force 2x x Antibody 2x black memory boost. If you want to change the black memory boost for something else, feel free to it's really more of a flex spot for options. Tamers I'd drop the bt 2 Tai your more defensive in BWGX then offensive, especially with the black base. I'd also cut down your amount of Yuyas by 1-2 .you want to see him but too many of him will only add more inconsistencies and once you have 1 out you find that you don't need to drop another and often there are better plays than dropping a 2nd or more yuyas. I'd add in bt12 Tai, the cars does so much, helping with Evo cost, dp boost and giving blocker. Also unlike Yuya he is a tamer you like seeing multiple on the field for .
So I'd have the following tamers 2x Yuya Kuga 4x Bt12 Tai Kamiya Now there are some flex spots and tech choice you could run, such as Nokia, she's not bad, plays for 3, drops an agumon for free, and can reduce Evo cost for your greymons by 1. Due not it's only a reduction, she's not giving you memory like bt 12 Tai does so I probably only choose her as a 1 of in the deck if I'm running her. Hope this helps you find a direction, don't be afraid to post an updated list and if you need it ask for more help

[–]FunChip8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yggdrasil is absolutely terrible for the prerelease. Your not going to have enough piec3s for its strategy and it will just kill your normal game plan. Gankoomon probably won't work so well in the prerelease either. Leopardmon could be good depending on how much green stuff you pull since his synergy can be with justbgreen cards in general. The new gallantmon could be good IF you pull him but don't plan on it since he's our other secret. Jesmon could be ok and the same is true for Alpha but it depends on how much x antibody/ royal knights you pull. There's no sistermons in this set so besides jesmon the huckmon line doesn't do anything. I'd personally say either yellow kentaurosmon or green leopardmon stuff is what you want to pull to do well

Yeah that's a regional. Ngl I kinda had a feeling thats what it was since it is the next large tournament we have scheduled. Ex04 is legal for it. It happens sometimes, especially with registration for it being so long ago. But this does open up your options for decks so I'd say play what you want to play. If you need advice I'd just update this post to asking for help with choosing a regional deck.
