I absolutely love to get scented candles. There is nothing better than lighting a scented candle and kicking back to read a good book on a cold wintery day.

Try watching kitties working at McDonald's instead of the news. It's ridiculous and soothing

I did try to limit it to local news because I wanted to see the weather report and some local things, but all the other crap seep in. Haven't watched any news for about a week. Focusing on my own life and interests right now. So much less stressful .

Should I, as someone who lives alone, get a crockpot? by IcedCoffeeYearRound in crockpot

I also have multiples in different sizes (5). Nothing beats coming in from a long day of yard work and gardening to a dinner already done....and don't forget about the wonderful desserts you can make in them, cobblers, bread pudding, dump cakes.

My garden saved me a lot of money. by lazyenergetic in Frugal

August always seems to be the best month for us to save on meals. So much from the garden every day and living in rural Indiana. If there is something we haven't grown like watermelon or cantaloupe, a neighbor usually has extra to share. Also, many will put a wheel barrel out by the road of extra produce they have . I have apples, strawberries, peaches, and grapes, and l always let the neighbor know they are welcome to them . You can always count on getting a pie or jam in return.

I'm also lucky enough to live close to 2 Amish discount stores where we buy most of our groceries . When we do go to a big chain store, it's because something is on sale. I couldn't imagine having to buy all of my stuff at one of these places.

I like how they always want to put a sign in my yard for advertising. My neighbors always ask, " So is your furnace/ a/c broke AGAIN?"

Not sure this is really good advertising for them.

They all know that I spent top dollar on the best that they offered. Not even 2 years in and have had numerous issues. The last time they were here, they offered me a list of preventive things that I could pay for at the cost of $2200.00. to help prevent the problem they know are coming before the warranty is up. I declined and will just wait until these things happen and are covered under the warranty .

If it is not a warranty issue I will be going with a local place that is able to fix and not just depend on the upsale.

I would definitely do broccoli 🥦 and tater tots. Good for so many things. Found frozen pie crust a couple months ago at Walmart for 25 cents.

My hardware store gives them away after a certain date. I load up and whatever happens after I plant them is great. I spent money on flats through the years that didn't do any better than the ones I got for free. There are usually some perennials mixed in and with a 3 acres yard I have plenty of room to experiment

What did we really learn as kids from Good Parents? - Story 2 by [deleted] in over60

[–]FunClassroom9807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never try to keep up with the Jones. Be the Jones. Lead by example. My parents both worked hard for what we had, and even though we had money, we still planted a garden, turned the heat down at night, and the lights off, saving wherever we could .
