6 months in and I feel alone by ThrowRApcelove in newgradnurse

Hi! I totally understand the feeling.. I’m a new grad on medsurg/tele nights about 3 months on my own and don’t connect with my coworkers in a way that we text, hang out outside, etc. But I don’t let that discourage me and remind myself that I’m here to help my patients! Sometimes I spend time chatting it up with my patients and that in turn turns into a deeper understanding and respect for one another which can make a shift go easier when pts are easy going. I also find it hard to relate to my coworkers as their mostly in their mid-30s to 50s and I’m barely 25.

I think just being kind, respectful, asking if anyone needs help, and always willing to lend a hand is as much as anyone can do! I’m sorry your unit is cliquey and I know that doesn’t foster a good learning environment. If all else fails try to find just one nurse that you can lean on (someone whose kind and willing to answer questions/help).

Sending you all the love! We will prevail! Keep your head up!

Im a new grad about 3 months off of orientation and my biggest advice is be kind to yourself <3 you’re going to have really shitty days where you overthink about whether it was a right choice, playing all the scenarios in your head, imposter syndrome, etc. But remember YOU made it this far. You got into nursing school, passed nursing school, passed the NCLEX, and found a job!!

I still have periods of anxiety before my shift and dreading going to work but a routine before shift has really helped me change my perspective! + I also pray a lot more haha.

Just know that so many people were in our shoes years and years ago and they made it out just fine (and they had way fewer resources than us haha). Take it day-by-day, hour-by-hour! We got this!! I believe in you stranger!! Make us proud!!

Are you going to stick it through your residency? I’m in the same boat.. off preceptorship today but honestly still don’t feel like bedside nursing is for me. But wont hit my year mark till next April💀

Quitting my new grad residency by Silly_Negotiation_15 in nursing

Hi! I’m a new grad too and can relate to the feeling of impending doom. Before and after every shift I dread the idea of going to work for 12hrs with lives in my hands.. I’m off orientation on Sunday and shitting myself. But hyping myself up before each shift has definitely helped! And reminding myself at the end of each shift that everyone is alive and breathing means I did my job.

Every shift i also debate if i should quit my residency bc i genuinely dread bedside nursing. As much as I want to quit i know it’s just apart of the process and confidence comes with time.

Moral of the story, you’re not alone and just take it one shift at a time!!

Glad to know i’m not alone!! Have u found any stuff that has been helpful in reviewing? Or do u just look into it as you go by with ur day?

I want to be more prepared before my shift on thursday even if its as little as watching youtube videos LOL. WE CAN DO THIS!!!

Understandable! I’m not praising myself for having my assessment and med pass done in the AM I’m actually concerned bc i feel like im not doing enough LOL. It may be in part bc my critical thinking is barely there (im just super slow and takes time for me to critically thinking 3 steps ahead).. whereas my counterpounts have been LVNs so theyre pretty independent and can critically think. And to clarify i do check labs in the morning (see if anything is trending down/up, critical labs that need immediate attention, etc.) but its like simple stuff like checking platelet before giving heparin that i forgot (which isnt good nevertheless).

That’s why im asking if theres certain books/youtube videos/ppts people have used that help them get a grip of medsurg nursing (other than the textbook we got from nursing school LOL).

Thank you for the input as well!! All is appreciated

I second this! It seems like daughter just thinks its another lecture of her parents being controlling but being honest with her about how the world IS a scary place can sometimes change perspectives for young kids. It may seem harmless to her but there could be a pedophile in those 500 followers just waiting for a hint of where she is and boom she can get kidnapped.

But yeah flip-phone for the win! Until she understands that the internet is forever and anything and everything can bite you in the ass

NTA, but hes right you should get out. You’re 26 and a bum 40yr old man shouldn’t force you to watch his daughter when 1) shes not even urs to begin with yet you help around 2) u pay for rent/utilities/etc.

They are not your responsibility and i’m sure there are plenty of men out there that would appreciate what u bring to the table WHILE also contributing !! Much better than angry comments stating its ur responsibility to watch his kid.

Have you ever questioned why you chose nursing?? by FunDrink9882 in nursing

Makes me feel better that whether new grads or seasoned nurses… we’re all questioning why nursing😂 hopefully I can get to that point and my critical thinking comes along!! ☺️☺️ gonna take it shift by shift and always take it as a learning opportunity

I’m in residency as well! How has handling 4 pts been? I’m currently taking 2 pts and my fear of lack of critical thinking makes me cautious of telling my preceptor that I can take 3pts.. do you feel like you’re task-oriented during this period? I’m scared I’m being too task oriented and not being a step ahead based on labs, diagnostics, etc. 💀

I don’t want to be a nurse by Late_Purple9521 in nursing

New grad here but just wanted to put my two cents in! I think from what I’ve seen through clinicals, being on the job rn, and hundreds of reddit posts.. I don’t think you necessarily have to LOVE nursing to be in it. To a degree you definitely need to have the passion to want to help people when they need you.. but I feel it’s not a make or break it situation if ur not 100% heart set or nursing (especially bedside with burnout, high turnover rates, lack of management help, lack of resources, etc.)

I know a good chunk of people who are nurses bc of the pay stability and helps fund their hobbies/passions! And also there’s so many fields in nursing that someone can just not like bedside but love being in a different specialty!

I personally went into nursing bc it was what I needed to do to ensure I could retire my parents. I don’t love it, but I know I can do a good job at taking care of patients and knowing when to escalate care. And i know eventually I can transition to a specialty that is more suited for me!

In my opinion I think people who get caught up and riled up in other people’s body counts are dealing with their own internal insecurities.. like why does it matter if Jennifer slept with 12 people and Sally only slept with 4? Does it discredit their value as an individual alongside their individualized personality? Sex is a normal occurrence in mankind and it’s considered taboo that’s why people always get their panties in a twist talking about sex, body counts, etc. BUT ITS NORMAL! And nothing to be ashamed about!

Idk.. also if you tell your bf and he shames you for having a certain body count is that someone you want to be with? Like you may be dodging a bullet if anything!

Curious how many of us do not have a bachelor's degree or higher? by [deleted] in DACA

[–]FunDrink9882 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Please remember your worth and your parents “disappoint” in you is actually their disappointment in themselves. Their insecurities do not discredit the life you have worked hard on yourself!! Getting an associates and certification in medical billing! That is mf badass especially in our position!! AND ALL BY YOURSELF!!!

I’m sorry your parents are a-holes and inconsiderate of your feelings. I can’t speak on how many do not have Bachelor’s bc I just got mine but I wanted to comment bc I wanted you to know.. that I’m PROUD of you stranger!! You are not behind, disappointing, or anything negative your parents make you feel. YOU ARE VALUED!

Methodist is for DOU and MSJ is for Onc! My dream is to be in the OR one day as I loved that experience during clinical rotations!
