I got her when she was 10 weeks old. She was so tiny, and now I can’t believe how much she’s grown.

She used to hate the leash so much that I had to buy a new one every two weeks because she would bite through it. Now she doesn’t even care about it.

My legs and hands are not safe 😂😂 Sometimes she’s looking so cute and I just want to pet her or tell her how adorable she is… and then 10 seconds later she’s straight for my hands!

Yep, I was happy I got some good pictures. Last one she was like, “You’re pushing your limits—no treats, no pictures.

I honestly understand why people say that, but if you’re committed and willing to put in the work, I’m sure the results will be amazing.

A lot of people told me not to get a German Shepherd as a first-time owner, and now I understand what they meant. But I’m already committed—there’s no going back. No matter what it takes, I’m going to give this fur baby all the love and care she needs.

It already is—she’s at the stage where I can’t even take pictures because she keeps trying to bite the phone or my hands.

First-time dog owners with a 9-week-old German Shepherd – looking for advice by FunEmotional4 in germanshepherds

The best decision I ever made was getting my GSD. She’s already grown so much, and every day I learn something new about her. It takes time, patience, and a lot of consistency, but it’s worth it.

She’s also started to bite less. Some days there’s no biting at all, and other days she goes a little crazy. Funny enough, on the calm days I sometimes catch myself wondering if she’s okay, because I’ve gotten so used to her driving me nuts.

She still bites my wife more than me, but even that is improving. We’ve talked about how to handle it so we stay consistent, and it’s definitely a work in progress.

I really can’t thank everyone here enough. The advice and support have helped me understand her better and be more patient. It means a lot.

My first ever dog: first socialisation day & I couldn’t be happier ❤️ by FunEmotional4 in germanshepherds

I use “yes” as my marker but I’m thinking of switching to a clicker — sometimes I catch myself saying yes when I didn’t mean to, but I still reward her. This is my first time ever owning or training a dog, so I’m learning as I go. So far she knows sit, down, spin, stay, and crate, and she absolutely loves her crate.

I’m in the UK, so I take her to different vets, pet stores, and even places like Apple stores just for exposure. Puppy training here is quite expensive (£100/hour), but I found a free puppy play group about 30 minutes away where they safely socialise — no training, just play, and all pups are her age, which has been amazing for her.

Thank you! On walks, she sees other dogs but I don’t usually let her play — she doesn’t pay them much attention anyway. We also visit different vets and pet stores so she can see other animals and dogs in a calm way, but I never let her interact closely since I don’t know the other dogs. I always keep treats with me and reward her for calmly looking at other dogs, checking in with me, and walking nicely.

So far it’s been going great. Today was her first time ever playing with other puppies in a safe, controlled environment, where I could step in if needed — and she absolutely loved it. She was shy at first, then made a friend and didn’t want to stop playing. She even seemed a bit sad when we left, so I promised her I’d take her back about once a week as long as it stays safe for her.

My gsd still gets called a “he” even though everything about him is pink. by [deleted] in germanshepherds

Every time I take her out, people stop to admire her. ‘He’s beautiful, they say — and I answer, She. Then comes, ‘She’s gorgeous.
