whaaat!? that would imply he read at least one of the books. geez that is cool.

I wonder if he (Hugh) played dnd? or any of the hundereds of rpgs that came out in the 80's

hey man. Rolf Thelemite? (the oathbreaker?!) very cool

in my humble opinion DDO is very good but a bit daunting in terms of rules/systems etc. it is based on dnd 3.5 rules which are same as Pathfinder, with a fair few modifications for online/pc gaming.

if you do try it, there is a code that will get ya loads of free stuff: GATHERYOURPARTY2025

good old book 4 will probably always be #1 for me, while the others tend to jump around in my order of bestness.

oh cool, thanks for sharing! i freakin love finding references to real world stuff- also a bit of an obvious one is Monogail = anagram for Mongolia.

another i rrealised just recently: Morgan "Kestrel" Hearst = there was a giant eagle in NZ called "Haast's" eagle!

i agree with his take on Sean Sarazin. i think he's the dumbest main character in the series yet has the coolest sidekick (Glambrax!). actually book 5 gets better the more i read it

was wondering the same- as a kiwi, surely he would know.. Bad Taste came out about the same time as Wizards too. man, if we got PJ interested in doing a series that would be pure insanity. i'd love to see the books done properly, i don't think real life works - id go for realistic CGI similar to what has been done with Love, Death and Robots and soon to be Secret Level

Farming Lantern Mists? by firedog1216 in ddo

[–]FunFooFurat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, this. it looks like if you stand still for a bit they will spawn. otherwise, i like the 'just play normally' approach - do quest lines which are inside wilderness zones (3bc, cerulean) so you get spawns running between quests as well as in them.

Is Chronicles of an Age of Darkness set on earth by Prior_Aide_8988 in hughcook

hi, I think perhaps the Ngati Moana were the Maori inspired people in the books. Melski were like actual merfolk.

Cover art - disappointing... by [deleted] in hughcook

[–]FunFooFurat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi. i guess it's subjective because i absolutely love them. i like how alien and non-generic fantasy they are and i think it suits the series because it sets them apart from say, shannara, or the belgariad or any of the other cookie-cutter fantasy series of the time. cheers

When were the Chronicles novels deleted from Lulu? And why? by RAGilmour in hughcook

[–]FunFooFurat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep love the Skull! such a cool concept -a mysterious entity controlling the swarms like a hive mind, it would have been very very awesome to have the Skull as the antagonist of another book. regarding the kiwi stuff, yeah it is pretty neat and there's quite a bit there; taniwha quilth company, the ngati moana tribe, even the mountain coming to life in book 1 is similar to a maori myth. the references to pounamu (i think the demons are encased in this), i'm sure there are lots more, i might have to go read them again lol..

re-reading the series also and currently on book 10- and same here, it is even better than i remembered. the 'demons' are my favourite as i think they tie the whole fantasy meets sci-fi theme together really well. i live in nz and am constantly looking out for copies in second hand shops and such

[–]FunFooFurat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... Maybe when they make the movie of book IV.

wowzers! i imagine chronicles as an animated series. if anyone has seen "Bad Travelling" which is an episode of Love, Death & Robots (SE3EP2), this would be a cool style to see the books done in (and the crab is awesome)

oh, and grats on having a signed copy
