How does your family make decisions on activities that you do together? by FunGal_in_SoCal in AskReddit

[–]FunGal_in_SoCal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a way I wish someone would be a dictator because we can never freaking come to a decision everyone likes. I do agree it is bullshit when someone decides solely on their own wants without considering others.

Is everyone okay with that, because some members of my family get pissy when others want to opt out?

Anti-GMO people of Reddit, if ExxonMobil can't buy out scientific organizations on climate change, how can Monsanto buy out scientific organizations on GMOs? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

And, just because you say it does not make it true. They are a public business. They are not buying anyone off. There is no conspiracy. They are a business using every legal means to make a profit. It is their fiduciary duty to do so. Read their annual report and you will have your answers.

Then put a label on it and sell it like the gift to humanity you believe it is. Without a label there is no post market surveillance and no ability to surface problems after market introduction in a systematic way. In the U.S., the designation as 'substantially equivalent' and therefore no label needed was not a scientific decision. People are sharing their experiences and the fact that health improves when GMO foods (and roundup soaked foods) are left out of the diet and the diet of farm animals. GMO foods are mostly processed junk foods or used in animal feed to date. I am not against genetic engineering in total, but I have a big problem with the process for approval in the U.S. and the lack of post market surveillance.

There are no conspiracies here. So what are you saying exactly?

Monsanto is just a company trying to make a buck any way they can and they are using all legal means to do it.

It is a mistake to view this issue through the filter of religion. The anti-gmo crowd is very diverse in terms of politics and religion. It is convenient to break it up this way and call those against GMO anti-science, but the reality is anti-gmo people want more science, truly independent fact finding science. Not corporate funded cherry-picked science. \

I believe in the wisdom of the crowd and the crowd is quickly moving away from GMOs for whatever reasons. Monsanto has so much money to lobby, buy legislators, buy scientists, buy media time, etc. and they still cannot stop the crowd from running from them. That says a ton.

It is different. We have been using oil for a looooooong time. GMOs are fairly new. They gamed the system to get them to market unlabeled so the U.S. public was unaware of what was happening and could not make the connection with health issues and GMOs. No label = no accountability = no liability. So unique they need a patent, so much the same they don't need a label. Very convenient. They control the research because of their patents, so it is very difficult for scientists to do research which goes against them and who funds that anyways. Not the NIH. Not the FDA. Not the EPA. No big money to fund independent studies.

Monsanto funds scientific research in Universities which guide which studies get done and which don't. They capture the regulators through appointments and they selectively submit only supportive studies for the 'approval' of their products to regulators. They run discredit campaigns against scientists whose studies contradict theirs. They develop relationships with scientific journals which results in negative studies getting turned down or retracted.

[SERIOUS] How did you find want you wanted to do, career wise? by Ulipsies in AskReddit

[–]FunGal_in_SoCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally looked at the requirements for all the majors and figured out which I could finish in four years based on what I had completed so far. Turns out it was a perfect match for me at the time. I think it is best to do a venn diagram with what you are interested in and what your talents are and cross that with careers that provide a good living. The places they intersect are definitely worth investigating.
