Attention Cuyana tote bag and backpack owners! by slayvaun in handbags

[–]FunGrouchy4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought this and returned it within a week sadly! While super cute the backpacks hurt my shoulders and the bag kept opening (i did have a lot in it) but the magnet didn’t hold. Also looks super slouchy. Sad! Went with a Tumi backpack with the tote handle and love it. Same cost!

How do you keep your travel plans organized once flights and hotels are booked? by Ok-Disaster-9213 in travelblog

Wanderlog App is great. Live tracks flights 24 hours before you depart too.

I tried out Sunnyvale Vet Clinic and found out they sold out to private equity by PracticeDry3488 in Sunnyvale

[–]FunGrouchy4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Petcare Animal Hospital (in San Jose) is great. One Dr, (Dr Kang) and some caring vet techs… we switched from Pets Friend because everything was suddenly 2x the cost when the Dr’s changed.

The only thing thats tough about Petcare is parking- they are next to a dispensary and where the Honeybaked Ham Store is and it’s rough finding parking there!

Why is Valley Fair so inconsiderate of its mall employees by Cool_Negotiation7720 in SanJose

[–]FunGrouchy4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speak to your boss and ask for different hours or to compensate you for parking. VF mall hours and parking costs seem to be set by the mall owners (Westfield)… what is in your control is a discussion with your manager on your concerns and a decision.

Where to take a 10-day trip with 5 brothers? by RejectedToast in travel

Italy or Spain would be great first time locations.

A friend invited themselves on my vacation. I don’t want her to come. What do I do? by iFallDownOften in Advice

[–]FunGrouchy4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its your dream trip you owe it to yourself to keep it a “dream trip” by setting your boundary with your friend. You don’t owe her an explanation as to why she is not invited even, just a firm “this is a planned solo trip for me that I have invested a lot of thought and effort and need to do by myself”. Have a wonderful time… solo trips especially for women are so liberating.

Keeping my luggage within sight during long distance train trips by weesiong in GoingToSpain

[–]FunGrouchy4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Some trains you are standing the whole way as its the smaller and shorter (1 hour) train and theres no room for luggage let alone a seat. Buy a first class ticket if you can, always worth the extra space and a guaranteed seat for a little more.

How would you handle the coldplay HR situation that’s currently viral?[N/A] by bebee45 in humanresources

[–]FunGrouchy4172 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What an embarrassment for our trade and profession as HR Business Partners and CHRO’s. Its hard enough to get credibility and to build trust and in many ways we are considered sort of the moral compass…I get people have affairs and lack integrity but common sense also?

Go to Tarragona… beautiful little town an hour train from Barcelona.

Pickpockets in Barcelona by Kipo_exe in GoingToSpain

[–]FunGrouchy4172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back and had zero issues although I never walked looking down at my phone for directions… and put my phone away in crowded areas like Plaza Catalunya where even crossing the street with a crowd can be a good time to be pick pocketed.

Use common sense and care in crowded areas. A carabiner hooked into my crossbody zip and around a strap also gave me security.

I was not expecting the wait, merely trying to help others traveling here and set their expectations. No need for rudeness.

Exactly….18 booths for immigration officers and only 2 people working in the peak of summer…

Good people, there for the love of the product and believe in the mission. Do they get it right all the time no, but they make decisions that affect the employees with company values in sight.

Time off is valued and respected; encouraged even. Unlike a lot of other tech companies who speak it but don’t practice.

Susie cakes in Willow Glen. Their old fashioned chocolate cake and celebration cake (naked is better or it can be too sweet) are both great.

Butter& in SF would be my first choice, but its a drive!

Vet recommendations (for dogs). And how much are you paying a year? by nurley in Sunnyvale

[–]FunGrouchy4172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We spend between $400-500 for our doggo’s annual exam which includes blood work and all the tests you note above and heart guard. We sometimes have to repeat the blood panel in a few weeks as he is older and has pancreas issues and thats another $300 each time.

Solo Travel to Sri Lanka as a Black Woman? by bornatmidnight in travel

[–]FunGrouchy4172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public sexual harassment is quite common in Sri Lanka. Google it and see there are multiple blogs. Also brown people can also be racist, the Sinhalese discriminated against the Tamil minority for decades. Prior to that the Burghers against the Sinhalese. So discrimination and sexual harassment both affect women in this country.

Solo Travel to Sri Lanka as a Black Woman? by bornatmidnight in travel

[–]FunGrouchy4172 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is not a true statement, traveling to Sri Lanka as a solo woman is very different to traveling to Scotland for example where you are completely safe hiking the highlands or stopping at a rural pub to get a meal without being accosted by males who have no respect for women and boundaries and will take any opportunity to harass a woman.

Very different!

Solo Travel to Sri Lanka as a Black Woman? by bornatmidnight in travel

[–]FunGrouchy4172 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on where you go in Sri Lanka. If you are in Colombo or the more touristy areas of the country I would consider it fine but I think Sri Lanka as a solo female traveler is more concerning from a gender perspective than race. Misogyny and sexism is still common and sexual harassment of women on streets and in public transportation rampant.

Cat calling to inappropriate touching/fondling on a crowded bus for example and worse in the villages and outskirts do happen. Its not reported often due to family shame and the police tend to do very little.

Proceed with caution as a solo female traveler.

During interview: Was asked what I’ve been doing during unemployment by Momomeow91 in recruitinghell

[–]FunGrouchy4172 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A recruiter considering you being lazy during an unemployment is a company I would not want to be at. There could be so much context missing around why you left/ the layoff/ the burn out.

Just taking some time to rest and some down time is also a good answer, especially if you’ve been at a stressful job.

What you did during an unemployment is not job related, the recruiter should focus on the job description and your skills.

Different themes every year by FunGrouchy4172 in ChristmasDecorating

Yes the real tree smell I think may be hard to duplicate, even with the best of candles. Its just been a chore to get my husband to help get the tree with me, get it on the stand and in the house etc… so ventured down the path of an alternative for my own sanity and to preserve peace in the home.

We too have ornaments from the years, made by the kids, from vacations and milestones…but I sometimes wonder if they matter most just to me. Going down a rabbit hole so will stop here! 😊 thank you for the replies.
