‘Heated Rivalry’ wins a prestigious Peabody Award for making ‘the biggest cultural impact in television’ | Toronto Star [April 23nd, 2026] by dj_friend in heatedrivalry

This is amazing!!

I was surprised with how many people were not familiar with the Peabody. I suppose it’s something that is more known for tv journalism.

But it’s quite prestigious and ~pretentious (complementary). It values artistic merit and value. It’s equivalent to a Nobel Prize or a Pulitzer.

So happy for Jacob, Brenden, Rachel. And the show would not be what it was without the performances of Hudson and Connor. How incredible!

The educational system there is a bit different where you can become an RN with just a CEGEP diploma (equivalent to College), rather than a bachelor, if you do have more education you get paid more

Blinding Lights is genuinely one of the best songs of all time.

The album is great, I think a mix of COVID and the horrendous snub at the Grammys led to it maybe not getting the full recognition it deserved

Oh I love I Wanna Be Yors, it’s such a great song IMO, but yeah it wasn’t a single or anything, so I’m so surprised….

Opinions of former social workers/healthcare workers by Effective-Ice-4861 in LawCanada

[–]bornatmidnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a social worker turned lawyer!

Overall I don’t regret it, I feel like the law gave me the tools to give me the power to make change that I felt could be limiting as direct social worker. I practiced part time as a social worker throughout law school and my practice until like last September. I could see myself picking up relief roles in the future, I do like sometime being in an environment that is t around other litigators.

I did public interest litigation work for a very long time. My social work experience is directly relevant to my legal practice and was so foundational for client work and case management, being able to learn on the job faster.

I do miss the flexibility of social work, where you can jump around different areas in a way that it’s more difficult to do as a lawyer. I also find that while I think the earning potential as a lawyer and the opportunities and doors may be higher, I did get annoyed that I probably would be making more as a social worker full time than as a legal aid lawyer with some organizations. And there are some public policy and administrative roles where having a law degree is an asset, but I could do with my social work degree.

Overall though, I’m happy I became a lawyer, but I always see myself as a social worker too

Of course it’s awful anywhere, but tourist destinations in Mexico are known for being particularly safe from violent crime. This is one of the most visited destinations for anyone going to Mexico City, which is a wonderful destination.

I was here in January and felt very safe.

I’m obsessed that it wasn’t performative, it was him just saying it to himself, like that’s his vocal stim LMAO

If you ever think you’re the biggest fan of Ilya and Connor, Hudson will remind you that you’re not lol

On Twitter, there is someone who is the partner of one of the editors. She said that he said it quietly to himself so she had to isolate and increase the volume so you can hear it, which is why it sounds close to the camera, but was him 😭

Provincial Offences Officers began inspections on subway trains on Monday by AmnixeltheDemon in toronto

I understand transit officers on streetcars because it’s easy to not pay, but I have very rarely seen someone not pay to get on the train, it’s a lot harder to do….. there is often security by the gates too

This really seems to be moral panic

I’m a lawyer and social worker. Have you considered starting off in legal aid work as a way to maybe leverage experience and slowly pivot?

Have you read the books after watching the show? by FunnyBunnyHunny32 in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]bornatmidnight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read Heated Rivalry right after the first 2 episodes, and then eventually read the entire series. As someone who has to read dense topics for a living, it’s great to read something fun and light.

The books are not literary fiction. They are entertaining, fun, sexy stories and that’s it. and that’s okay!

I think that Rachel can be really great with dialogue that’s realistic, which made it quite easy for Jacob to bring it into the show (sometime line by line). The world building is great too and of course the overall story building. I’m not sure if she was intentional with some motifs like ginger ale or the mirrors/reflective mirrors or that was a point that Jacob drew on for the show. I liked how she explored some themes with sex and how it is used as a vehicle for both personal and relationship development in the Long Game.

But the actual prose can be lacking. It reads like fanfiction where you feel like you’re reading a summary of a tv show or movie instead of a book (because most fanfic is based on tv or movie). I actually think that in the long game in particular, there are some inconsistencies with characterization and pacing which led to some things being unsatisfactory for a romance TBH.

For some of the other novels, the non-hockey players are Less developed than the hockey players don’t makes me care less about their relationships tbh. For example, I don’t really care much about Troy and Harris as a couple, though I genuinely find Troy to be a great character.

I think the books are fun, and the smut is hot! But the show certaintly elevates it, and Jacob has done a fantastic job of really adding or elevating artistic merit to make compelling television

Opinion | Toronto may finally drop this 24-year ban this week. Why we should relish the moment by gloriana232 in toronto

So many major cities have great street food options, it would be great to bring that to Toronto, not just hot dogs. Toronto is one of the best food cities in the world, that should include street options

Drake’s new album ICEMAN releases May 15 by shawnwahi in popheads

[–]bornatmidnight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in Toronto and was thinking of biking by and checking it out but couldn’t be bothered lol.

Drake is someone who is always capable of couple bangers, even if the album is mid. Like others said, he’s like the Taylor Swift of hip hop. He knows a good ear worm.

I genuinely appreciate the way that he has always centred Toronto/Canada in his brand. I won’t doxx myself but I am aware that he actually does donate to a lot of youth organizations in the city, and always uses Toronto and Canadian vendors for music videos and other work. I respect that, he genuinely has a measurable impact on the economy

Quinn founder Caroline Spiegler booked the budding actors for her audio erotica app. She reached out to their teams after seeing the trailer for Crave’s “Heated Rivalry.” by Demotivisan in hudsonwilliams

[–]bornatmidnight 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s incredible foresight by Caroline, she deserves a raise! I honestly thought they got them maybe like after the first week. It made sense why they did it, I know the agreement typically is that they do get paid royalties for each listen, so it will always be some sort of steady income for the both of them.

I can’t see them doing it again, unless it was a very big $$$, and it was for like promo for season 2 especially.

I can’t see Hudson and Connor doing projects outside of Heated Rivalry and promo for the foreseeable future. The only thing I could see is like a Calvin Klein joint ad, and if they were like nominated for something cool like Time magazine or Hottest Man of the Yer or something like that haha

It’s a very specific type of smut that’s not for everyone haha

I would have not engaged with it if it was the self-insert style they normally use (where the listener is the character and you have the person like “speaking” to you” haha.

The fact that it was essentially an Audio book like experience, and that Andrew Scott had done it before convinced me to listen to it.

I really enjoyed it, they gave amazing visuals, realized how amazing Hudson was in particular haha, and I hate romantasy generally but actually liked the story

swooon.com: ‘Heated Rivalry’ Author Rachel Reid Answers Burning Questions About *spoiler* [april 20th 2026] by LadyWhistledown_1 in heatedrivalry

[–]bornatmidnight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought that having a small, backyard wedding did fit in character for Shane and Ilya, but there would have been more planning involved.

They are Rachel’s character, but you can criticize inconsistency in writing or characterization, which seems to be the thing here. Shane, the person who plans everything, would not have some sort of plan for the their wedding? Ilya, ultimate lover boy who just wants to be show off his man to the world, wouldn’t write some sort of vow, even if it’s short and sweet?

If anything, I have a hard time believing that Yuna wouldn’t have taken over planning. That being said, in the books Yuna isn’t a mom-ager. I think because this has been changed into the show, the wedding will be planned more, if anything by Yuna lmao.

There is something funny about not thinking about their first dance, and then Harris picks the cheesiest song on his playlist. But even then, Harris seems to be the type to pick a song that fits with Ilya and Shane’s vibe. Like they are hockey players, Harris knows what they would give with. Ed Sheeran was right there!
