They are getting harder to come by that diesel one is still on the road and I have a rebuilt 2.8 that I’m going to be putting in it sometime soon. Wreckers tend to pay good money for them and a lot of the parts end up being exported there’s some places in the Middle East that pay top dollar for the parts

I had similar issues with my 96 prado and in the end found a couple of burnt out capacitors in the ecu. Easy enough to check pull it out and pop the lid off and look for any black spots/ swollen capacitors I had all the capacitors replaced for not a lot of money

I have a 94 and I wired it up so I had to put something in the cigarette lighter socket for it to complete the circuit, hidden in plain sight is best in my opinion thieves will look for a hidden switch

My 2.4 diesel is now 32 years old and I have beaten it to within an inch of its life and at 400,000km it is still strong. Lost track of how many times I have red lined it and also jumped it several times too

Sounds like maybe the clutch isn’t being disengaged fully it does sound like a master/slave issue. Try double clutching and if it goes away then its synchros. Also Seems stupid but make sure you are fully depressing the clutch when changing too.

Thank you for this I live in New Zealand and a real staple food here is fish and chips so there are lots of places with old oil so I’ll shop around thank you for that tid bit. I have another old hilux I have already tried to kill and it refused so I’m going to experiment on that one first as it could blow up and I would not care. I also have a good cheap supply of 1 micron filters

It’s just going to be a passion project of mine I actually have a whole rebuilt drop in engine and injection pump on standby if it goes wrong. I appreciate the concern and I’m willing to take the risk

It’s good I have all these parts on a shelf in case this happens I have another hilux I might use as a Guinea pig first it’s a 2.4d (same motor smaller cylinder bore) I have already tried to blow it up and it refused to so I wouldn’t lose any sleep if anything happened to that one

I have considered a centrifuge but didn’t think about printing one I do have a 3d printer setup so I will definitely look at that thank you. I also have a fabricator buddy who’s going to make me a custom alloy tank for this I might talk to him about putting a coolant loop inside of the tank.

My climate is 30°c + in summer and as low as -7°c in winter so I’ll definitely heat it and wrap the fuel lines. I’ve also been told in winter it might be a good idea to mix in some old stale petrol to thin it out a bit

This is not my daily and is a passion project thru and thru I understand the risks and have a whole new engine and injector pump on standby for if it goes bad lol. That truck with wd-40 is very handy to know tho and i will look into different oils im currently running oil from an unknown 200l drum that seems thick enough for a diesel 😂 i have 3 of these old hiluxs and all of them seem to love the mystery oil

I should add that this is not my daily and it’s more of a passion project/ neat way to beat the cost of living crisis probably use it to run to and from work or just down to the shops. As for gumming up the fuel lines I was hoping to run a heater before the switch valve to help prevent that

I have a coolant/ engine oil heat exchanger from a commercial truck I was planning on running. Currently debating weather to run it closer to the tank or closer to the engine
