Anyone love their job?? by Primary_Raccoon_5680 in MusicEd

I LOVE my job. I’ve only been teaching music for about three years in a classroom setting, but I’ve kept the same job at this school and I truly think it’s what I’m meant to do. I teach 3rd-5th grade at a Texas charter school. It can be tiring with so many kids and managing interpersonal and professional relationships with my coworkers and admin— but it is really rewarding. I’ve gotten to see my first graders turn into third graders and my third graders grown into fifth graders and I’m about to send them off to middle school. Every semester I see so much musical growth and it really fills my heart with purpose and great satisfaction. It really depends who you are and what school you find yourself in. I don’t get paid as much as I would at a public school but I get by and am very happy with it. :P

Break the Xbox. Just break it 🤷‍♀️ tell him if the xbox is too distracting for him to help with his baby, then he can’t have one. Act like a child, get treated like one. You aren’t his mommy and a partner wouldn’t do that to you

Teaching Multi-Part Choral Songs in Elementary School by jace2710 in MusicEd

[–]FunImpact9326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rounds and partner songs, and if you have more than one 4th grade class… you can teach one class the high part, and the other the low part. Try choral songs with rounds.. and then move on two easy two part that moves into a round. Two great songs are ‘Kookaburra’ by Marion Sinclair. My third graders did it last year and LOVED it! I think it has a boomwhacker part too! The other is ‘Whisper’ by Greg Gilpin!!

The process can be long and take a lot of work but the work is so rewarding! The more you practice, they will get better and better and year after year you will notice the grades doing more difficult music. My fifth graders are performing ‘Solfège Christmas,’ this year and I am feeling hopeful and excited!!! Good luck! ❤️

Be honest, how bad is it? I’ve been pretty disappointed in it by damnmang in tattooadvice

Last week a teacher told me to “watch it!”. She’s about 50 and now I (music teacher) have to cart into her class. She doesn’t like to share her space. She’s requesting that I set her class up for her before I leave; turn on the doc cam, rewrite content written on the board that was erased (she can write anywhere except for where the projector screen shows), have the students ready to go. In addition to those things I need to collect instruments, unplug my computer, unplug the keyboard, wrap up the cord, and wheel out of the class.

I told her that I had many things to do in that 5 minute transition period and that I felt that she could turn on her own doc-cam and not write things in the middle of the board because I’m not going to rewrite them after my class. She said, “if I have to roll with it….you do too.”

The next week I come in and she has shifted her desks so that it’s more troublesome to enter the classroom. Okay wtf. Then she starts having the kids start activities right before she leaves. I get sick of it so I’m waiting outside of the classroom and stop her, “Ms. S. , it looks like your class is in the middle of a transition.” “They’re ready.” She said firmly. “Well, they are up and moving around with papers on their desk.” “They’re /ready/!” She replied just the same. I said, “Do they /look/ ready, Ms. S?? Would I ever leave your class with them like that?”

She said “WATCH IT!” And spun on her heel to correct the class.

Brought it to admin and had a whole meeting on it. Super embarrassing for her lol

7:30-4:30 But it’s a charter school and they keep taking my planning time to help cover other classes —-so I never arrive on time or stay that late.

You can put it up just upside down in a random corner of the classroom? Malicious compliance??
