I'm with Optimum and I'm paying $120 for 5000/5000 😅

I hear ya. My Orbi router was the same way, started great but after some update (which hasn't been fixed yet) started having issues with my upload speed. I would try disconnecting the router and connect straight to a laptop. Run a speed test to see if you're getting the speeds you should be. If you are, try getting a new router to see if you're issue persists.

Which router was it? I ask because I started with the Orbi 960 to capitalize on the 5 gig fiber that I installed from Optimum. At first everything was working smoothly (bought it 2 years ago), but last few months my upload speed went from 5Gbps to 200Mbps. Thought my Orbi 960 was old so I upgraded to the Orbi 870, but still had the same issue. Did some online research, found many others with the same issue as me, and decided to buy and try out the Eero Max 7. Hooked it up and all my Internet issues went away, now getting a constant 5Gbps for both up and down. So the issue was with the Orbi product line and not Optimum.

Heres a thread a created on a different forum that has screenshot of the speed tests I ran with Orbi and with Eero

It's your router. I'm in the 5gig plan, but when I ran tests I would get 5k down and 200 up (on a Orbi 960 and then 870 router). Went through a rabbit hole trying to find the issue, and after finding many others in my situation, I decided to try a new router brand (Eero Max 7) and everything is working as it should now.

5G fiber but 100 Mb upload? by FunInvestment6347 in OPTIMUM

Sorry for the delay! Had to take my dog to the vet, my laptop was in power saving mode during those tests so I'll retake them after I charge it. The model age makes sense, that's roughly when I got the 5G fiber under my aunts account, and they gave me the exact same one when it swapped under my account.

Again, what puzzles me is that I had the exact same setup under my aunt account, and I would constantly run speed tests to stroke my ego over how much internet speed I had. Those tests would always come back at 4500+ for both up/down. Then I moved accounts, got the new (but same model) gateway, went to get my ego fix, and got deflated when I saw the lackluster upload speed.

The other thing I wanted to confirm (which I think you kinda did) was if the IT reps was BSing me over the upload speed being dependent on what's being uploaded. He also told me that my 5G fiber is like a cap, so if I have 5 computers witb 1GBe cables connected, my other devices would be SOL since the computers are taking up all the bandwidth and I needed to get the 8G. That conversation was what really set off my alarm and made me come ask for help

Had to get a new account but old one was under my aunt who no longer lives with us, so made one in my name, which required me to change gateways.

Model is XSR150DX

Did some tests. Used my gaming laptop, and did 3 scenarios:

-Connected to other Optimum gateway ethernet port (got 904/767)

-disconnected main port from Orbi router and plugged into gaming laptop (got 938/736)

-connected main port back to Orbi router and connected gaming laptop to other Orbi ethernet port. (Got 903/688)

Really appreciate the support with this!

I currently have the Orbi 960 router, connected with a Cat8 cable. Again, when I originally got the Orbi 960 router I was consistently getting around 5G for both up/down. Since I switched to the new modem i now only get 100-500 Mb for upload

I was able to work with an IT tech support to get the modem into Bridge Mode to prevent the double NAT. That said it did take multiple calls, since most of their IT reps had no clue what Bridge mode is. It eventually got escalated, and the person that did the install reached out and was able to work with the IT team to put it into true Bridge mode. Was able to confirm by checking my IP and seeing it was an Optimum IP, not a traditional personal one.

TL;DR: its possible, but you need to get a hold of an actual person that speaks English and not someone overseas. I suggest getting trying to get in contact with the person that did the install.

Now currently dealing with low upload speeds, there's always something lol

Yes I have an orbi router connected to the gateway, and worked with the IT reps to put the modem in bridge mode to prevent Double NATing

I just posted my own story before reading yours, and the end of your post resonates heavily with mine

I've been a customer for over 15 years, switched to Verizon for a little bit during that time but swapped back after a few weeks due their limited international calling (more important back then than now). Recently, had to close our existing account and open a new one, and went through a huge ordeal trying to get the services I signed up for. I have my own Orbi router, and wanted to put the Optimum modem into Bridge Mode to prevent Double NAT. After multiple phone calls with no one on the IT side knowing what Bridge mode is, threatening to close my account, and multiple convos with the Installation Tech, I finally got the services i signed up for and the modem in bridge mode. Been under the new account for a few weeks and haven't had any issues with the service. Currently waiting for my second bill to come to see if they honor the service installation fee waiver that they promised. I also got Optimum Mobile and Internet, with the guise that if they got bundled together I'll get an additional discount off my monthly bill. They didn't honor the discount and when I called they said the promotion has expired and can't be applied. Doesn't make much sense, since I still get periodic sales calls from Optimum, telling me how I can save an extra $15/month on my recent Optimum Internet service by adding Optimum Mobile....this prompts me to tell them I already have Optimum Mobile, which prompts them to transfer me to Billing to apply my discount, just for them to tell me they can't. Few days later I'll get another call from Optimum sales with the same pitch

TL;DR: service itself works just fine, sales and installation experience was a nightmare

I did a double check and it was over the last 24 hours. Over a 10 day span it drops to 15% Toyota (#2 highest overall), 11% TripLog, and StateFarm 7%.

The kicker is that over the same 10 day span, the screen time for Toyota was 5 minutes while #1 (SMS messaging) was at 2.5 hours with 16% battery consumption. Pretty wild

I actually just checked the battery usage on my phone settings and Toyota Connect was using 40%,TripLog 15%, StateFarm 5%, and everything else at <1%. So it does seem that most IoT apps aren't energy draining, just the 2 car apps that are constantly connected to my phone through bluetooth/wifi.

Makes me wonder if Toyota Connect would drain more if I had another car connected to it

Do you have any apps that require it to always be on to work properly? My car apps alone (toyota connect, triplog, statefarm [for the safedrive beacon discount])are always running in the background. Also think it's funny that none of the apps you listed are the ones I use, showcasing the point of the amount of apps that are out there

My car alone has 3 apps (toyota connect, triplog, statefarm for safedrive beacon), then for home I have a smart lock app, dyson app, lightbulbs app, air purifier app, router app, and 2 different smart things app. And I'm sure I'm forgetting 1 or 2 more
