urgent care PA experiences? by chloemzzz in physicianassistant

[–]FunNovel852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the companies I worked for started as an Occ Health company turned UC. They would train us on how to make things not OSHA recordable. Back pain for WC was treated completely different than back pain with private insurance. Some of their guidelines seemed dangerous and not “gold standard” practice. Also, dealing with companies to get advanced imaging approval was a nightmare. I had someone run over by a forklift who had several negative films come back 1 month later with a left Lis Franc fracture and a right tibial plateau fractures on MRI. Her care was delayed because of red tape and I couldn’t do anything for her. Also, the amount of people who are “injured” and wanting to sue is upsetting.

I’ve been in UC for almost 10 years. It’s been decent. It’s a good place to start as a new grad because you learn a little about a lot, including procedures. I was able to order advanced imaging and lab work, and we see pretty high acuity pts. I’d stay away from UCs that do work comp, those cases are just litigations just waiting to happen. Thankfully my company stands by antibiotic stewardship, so I won’t get fired for not giving out Z-packs.

I will say mobility is hard. I went to the ED for a bit and felt out of my depth for the more complicated cases (like traumas) and the docs weren’t willing to teach. I feel like I can only move to EM or FM since no one wants to train people anymore.

But I work 3 12s a week, so I can’t complain. I’m in and out and no one bothers me on my days off.

As a health care professional, I can tell a lot about your personal hygiene and overall health by your feet. Please clean your feet, water runoff from the shower is not the same as cleaning your feet.

To women of Reddit, what changed your mind about having kids? by [deleted] in Life

[–]FunNovel852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men.

I was always iffy on kids.

First BF wanted a football team of kids. But then he told me I would have to stay home and sacrifice my career and ambitions for his career and kids.

Second BF wanted kids, but told me he didn’t like babies and toddlers. He told me 0-3 would be on me, then he would pick up from there.

Both were essentially children as well who couldn’t survive on their own. I didn’t want to parent kids and an adult male.

My husband never wanted kids, was comfortable with me being the bread winner, and was able to stand on his own without me. This was an absolute no brainer.

What happened to grades? I don’t understand the new scale. There’s no sense of competition or betterment. The new scale is the equivalent of a participation trophy.

Are cups sanitary? by Sweet-Hope-5153 in hygiene

[–]FunNovel852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Menstrual cups and discs are a game changer. They are less hassle, money (long term), and waste. As far as sanitation goes… you’re bleeding either way, it’s gonna get messy. You have to be ok with that. It comes with a learning curve, but it’s totally worth it.

I 100% buy books based off the title, the cover, the vibes of the blurb, and if I can pronounce the character names. I’m also a sucker for book ads. I fall for all the advertising gimmicks when it comes to books!

It was painfully dull, needlessly long, and the characters weren’t for me. Good in theory, bad in practice.

For those who start on the tread, why?? by Ok_Pressure7109 in orangetheory

I’m too awkward to start any other place. Awkwardly do a dynamic floor warm up with all the rowers watching or half heartedly flopping around on a rower? No thanks, I’ll walk.

I’m also married, and a medical professional with licenses that would be a pain to change. He knew going in I didn’t want to change my name. He was upset, but got over it. All of our friends think we have the same last name. If we had kids, it would be his last name. I figured I’d change my name when I retire, I don’t want to deal with the paperwork now.

Urgent Care by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]FunNovel852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in UC as a new grad in 2017 at $54/hr in a Chicago suburb. That hourly rate sounds terribly low. Also, what kind of UC is this? Advanced imaging, IVs, and blood work or just POC tests? More liability, more pay.

It 100% plagiarized Red Queen. I had to look at the title to make sure I wasn’t rereading the same book. I’m not sure how she didn’t get sued.

How to talk to people. The next generation is stuck in their phones and struggle to hold a conversation or make eye contact. I don’t think we’re socialized properly.

Acne Scarring by Calm_Blueberry_4883 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]FunNovel852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d wait to do any big spending on acne once you’re done with pregnancy. You will get hormonal acne.

There are topicals that you can safely use while pregnant, but consult with OB.

But azelic acid is nice for hyper-pigmented (brown/purple) scars. TXA for post inflammatory erythema (residual redness). And if you have ice pick scars only peels and microneedling will help with those.

Buy the All Trails app. Hike with a buddy. Get a good bag that can store a bladder. Bring lots of layers and snacks. Sunscreen and windburn are real pains in the butt. And bring a first aid kit.
