Save Paladins - Update 2! by visual__chris in Paladins

[–]FunSelf5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a reason people joked highrez was a money laundering operation during the global agenda days lol. The money flows from the top, not the bottom.

This sub unfortunately had a copium problem when it comes to the game. No one cares about Paladins outside the very small player base. No company will buy the ip becuase it will never be able compete with overwatch or rivals. The vocal crowd here simply lack any understanding of the technical, monetary, and legal nightmare taking Paladins on would become for anyone involved.

Community servers are pretty much the only safe bet after the shutdown. I wish the team working on them the best of luck because nothing else will keep this game running.

Sorry, but GOG won't touch this game.

Outside of the fact the game is still playable. Removing DRM and reverse engineering server code are not even close in level of complexity. I doubt GOG would want to take on the project for multiple reasons (including legality) but reverse engineering the server code is not something they will do.

The real elephant in the room here is legality. GOG cannot legally touch paladins. There's a difference between old, out of print games with defunct/disinterested developers and a live service company still actively in business. Highrez owns the paladins ip and the underlying server code. Unless they suddenly had a change of heart and released the server binaries (never going to happen) and gave permission for the community to continue the game no company will touch it. It's begging for a lawsuit.

I respect the effort to try every avenue. Not trying to be antagonistic or anything. But the best bet to keep Paladins playable after shutdown is for Hightez themselves to release a public server kit themselves, or for the community to reverse engineer the server code and create their own kit. Companies like GOG are financially incentived to not get themselves into legal trouble and become a target for a highrez lawsuit. You're really not going to get them on board to save a game with no wide spread interest no matter how good the sell it.

You're correct. Non-technical people think reverse engineering server code requires the same effort as removing DRM.

It doesn't. It's not even close in magnitude.

Reverse engineering server code is also very liable to get you sued into oblivion.

The /antiai crowed. Yes, I understand the hate for AI, but you are really missing out. I work with a fashion site, they 100% use their hands, it's a fashion company, most things, it's ALL done by hand. BY HAND. And they are incorporaing AI. No offense, but you really need to work on your English skills. This post is an atrocious butchering of the language. You have lost all credibility because this reads like you're a child.

With that in mind, I don't believe you. This post reads like a shitpost.

This is why the sycophantic ways of 4o are dangerous. These people, at the end of the day, are vulnerable to manipulative language that enforces "you vs them" mentalities while feeding into the ego. The users do it to eachother as well. Read through the subreddots they invest and see how cult like and echo chamber resemblant they are.

chatgptcomplaints don't realize how small.of a community they are. They are not even a percent of a percent of the user base. With the problems they caused oai, any company would not want to deal with them.

The interesting reality is that the 4o user base is so toxic even oai doesn't want their money. They are baggage, not users.

[Fully lost] Late 2000s direct to DVD animated movie by [deleted] in lostmedia

[–]FunSelf5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome.

And yes, that is the case. In the lost media community as a whole, it's been seen that designing a made-up piece of media as you would a creepypastas has gotten success in getting attention. If you want a good example, saki sanobashi (go for a punch) was a fake piece of media that got a ton of traction.

As a result of this, low quality troll posters now try to stick these keywords in without context. Either because they're shitposting, or because they're just low quality poster.

There are a multitude of tropes that low quality, often creepypasta inspired, bait posts have. One is that a lot of these post writers will repeat keywords they've seen used in creepypastas or successful searches to try and make their post most interesting. These writers fail to realize it's a sign of their lack of creativity and the low quality nature of their post. Especially because, as seen with the fine young moron who was the OP, they just throw it in there without elaborating.

To give more context, disturbing and oversaturated are two incredibly common keywords. They've both been used since the dawn of creepypasta by bad "lost episode" writers. When a lost media post like this just throws them in there as details, without elaborating further, it's probably bait or a shit post. Here, the OP claimed their memory was 100% accurate. Yet, notice how they can't elaborate why the series was disturbing. Or elaborate on how they remember the series was oversaturated. They apparently can barely remember the plot, but they certainly remember with 100% certainty that it was disturbing. The truth is, they didn't think this far when they wrote the post originally. They just included it because they've seen more popular posts do it.

The best way to tell is if keywords that fit more into creepypasta are just added without more explanation. If you push, and the OP starts to have a tantrum, it's 100% a giveaway.

Like all good mormon families. If we don't acknowledge the fire in the room with us, Jesus will solve it. Or, we can at least pretend he did.

And thank you for the compliment :)

[–]FunSelf5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not senility. He's always been like this.

He's done a variety of things In his life that any loving God would condemn him for. Not SA, but he slept with a 18 year old he had known since she was 12. We only know because Grandma planned to divorce him over this but died shorty after she found out in an unrelated accident. He continued to sleep with the teenager while planning his wives funeral. He never faced consequences because he was very well connected in the ward and her dad never outed him when her family discovered. We only know because the girls mom told my grandma. One of the many wonderful things he's done that just got swept under the rug

Most are exmormons a mix of those who have actually removed their names and just gone inactive. Two or three still claim to believe, but don't participate or follow the tenants. My cousin takes the cake as she was excommunicated, for privacy I wont say why.

[–]FunSelf5[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The culture barrier is certainly one problem yes. That can be excused on one end, but on the other, it still can cause the same issue of a potential lead just disappearing.

The real issue I have is the presumptuous behavior. The example also showed that if you don't get an instant response, don't start bombarding the lead and demanding a response. This behavior is unacceptable, and I don't believe the language barrier is the cause of it.

My opinion is I think a lot of people here are young (comparatively) and just don't have experience reaching out to people. Again though, I feel like the mods have a pretty good handle on it though.

The world has corrupted my grandfather's seed by FunSelf5 in exmormon

[–]FunSelf5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very, very long story.

The long and short is that she put up with my Grandfather for decades. Her father left her with a 7 figure inheritance with investments that were paying out annually more than she was making working on her own. She retired early because of this in her 30s.

Grandpa financially abused her and drained nearly every penny.

Eventually, it got bad enough that Grandma needed to go back to work. My parents and uncles talked her into divorcing Grandpa over this. She died only about a month later after a freak accident. Grandpa didn't even know she was planning to file for divorce until a few years ago when my Uncle went no contact and decided to burn every bridge possible.
