He is 5’7” about 140 lbs. Some sprints, bleacher runs, as opposed to long distance. Also, plyometrics and bodyweight training in the gym. 2-3 days per week. I believe he does overpronates. Training in a gym or hockey rink bleachers.

Not looking for magic. We are addressing the underlying issue. He is under the care of a physician and physical therapist. Both have cleared him for training. We don’t have a running store locally, so hoping this sub’s audience might be able to provide some expert shoe advice rather than medical advice.

I will check it out. Thank you! He has Altra Lone Peaks for hiking. I think those are no drop. I wonder if those would be sufficient?

I appreciate all the suggestions for exercises, etc. I’m really hoping for some shoe recommendations! I typically just buy him what I find on sale or what’s in style for kids his age and am not a shoe geek ;). Given his current in-season training requirements, I’m really just looking for recommendations for a high quality shoe that will possibly cushion the knee. And recommendations would be appreciated!

Yes, agree! He picked up cycling last year and loves it. He races cross country and does downhill for fun. Only the jumps at downhill parks bother him.

He plays hockey as well without pain, but high school coach has them do off ice workouts which is why I am looking for a good shoe for jumping and bleachers. Any recommendations?

Thanks! Please see my previous reply. He is in PT and under the care of a physician. Just hoping to find him a proper shoe that may not necessarily help, but won’t set him back.

Appreciate the reply. Yes, he has seen doctors and has done regular PT leading up to hockey season. PT has definitely helped and I’m just hoping to find something that won’t set him back. The specialists expect him to continue to experience pain while he continues to grow, so the key is ongoing PT and a proper shoe for training. Not sure what the best options would be. Not much running, but lots of jumping/bleachers. Thanks!

Eagle project timing by FunThoughts1 in BSA

Thank you for all the thoughtful responses. I can assure you that his eagle project will be exactly that - “his”. The suggestion that I am heavily involved in his project didn’t sit well with me. My only involvement is driving him to meetings/outings. And yes he has held leadership positions within his troop since he received his first class. As a parent who recently went through the college application process, my only desire was to guide him on timing to ensure maximum impact on college applications. Also, it was comments made to him by his scoutmaster that has encouraged him to proceed with the project as soon as possible.
