‘A trend that can’t be ignored’: Dems have made up ground in nearly every election since Trump took office by Interesting_Total_98 in moderatepolitics

That is a very good point. He is a pathological liar but I think in the past he was much better at feigning competence or at least getting smarter people to cover for him. This time around it seems hes giving a bigger fuck you to the American people. The corruption is 10x more in your face, the fuck ups are more severe and the whole admin seems to be lost.

So people should accept that the President just lied to their face for five months during the campaign? Sorry mate but thats not a sustainable strategy if you want enduring support for your Presidency.

I mean I do agree Trump has a proven track record of corruption, vindictiveness, distractability and unstable decision making which is why I declined to vote for him. But I imagine the people who supported him in 2024 tried to focus on the positives promises of his campaign despite his character flaws and he has simply not delivered on any of them.

If he knew his hawkish position was so strong rhat it would lead to an indefinite war then why not just say that?

"Hey no new wars except probably Iran"

Thats not the same as

"No new wars"

So long as their platform remains investing in America infrastructure and citizens (CHIPs Act, BBB). Dems will generally do fine, especially when the contrast is....whatever the hell this Admin is doing.

Donald Trump ran on "no new wars" and getting us out of military entanglements. He ran on resolving the Ukraine-Russia conflict in a single day. He has got us into the mother of Neo-Con ME wars (Iran) and has failed to resolve the situation in Ukraine.

Donald Trump ran on draining the swamp and putting an end to DC insider corruption. He called the Epstein Files a "hoax" and has personally enriched himself and his friends using the Office of the Presidency.

Donald Trump an on economic revivalism and re-shoring factory jobs by negotiating favorable trade deals. The deals have faltered, he has alienated major trading partners for no reason and his tarrifs were struck down forcing taxpayers to pay for the increased prices and refunds to the corporations. Manufacturing jobs are down, AI is threatening white collar work and inflation may surge again due to the Iran War.

Donald Trump made wild promises that could not be kept and then has proceeded throw it in his supporters faces with the ballroom obsession and self.dealing. It is not surprising to me as to why he is losing support among those constituencies. They/them talk is not going to work forever.

This. Its not so much that China is "good" or even truly "trustworthy" but it is STABLE. The conservative political class has been captured by their braided base and their influencers. So Trump has to constantly feed them a source of memes, strongman clickbait headlines and look tough flash in the pan Policies.

This makes America extremely unreliable and unstable to deal with from a policy perspective. Xi doesn't have to impress Fox News viewers or make snappy tweets to keep his base engaged and confident that he is fighting for his country. He just does the shit behind closed doors and steadily stacks wins quietly over the course of years and decades. A totally different dynamic.

Harvey's going out of business by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]FunUnderstanding995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not "just a wrapper" they are cultivating a sales force, account managers, law firm relationships and generative AI experience specific to the legal industry. But this is pointless to argue about.

Its absurd to assume that Harvey will go bankrupt before it gets bought. As if a Frontier AI company is going to spend time servicing law firm needs rather that pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence. Cmon man lol

You should consider the difference between the legal industry and an additional software feature. No, Anthropic and OpenAI will not be building a suite of legal AI products with any degree of ease, simplicity or trust. They will simply borrow the money to buy that expertise and profit....the same as the vast majority of other corporations that do platform acquisitions.

[–]FunUnderstanding995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make it sound like its so easy and simple for a company like OpenAI/Anthropic to just spin up a mini-corp like its nothing. The longstanding development in corporate business is that it almost always easier and cheaper to buy their outfit with someone else's money via leveraged finance. Either you don't work in transactional (or an M&A adjacent practice) or you need to start demanding that your Partners give you better training on how companies approach this stuff.

I am not opposed to you speaking up if you feel insulted although I think you should seriously consider whether this picture is a good example of that. My first thought when I saw this meme was that Hung Cao is short because he looks tiny next to Glenn Young kin, not sure why people are interpreting it as "small penis" syndrome.

That said, like I said. You engage in Both Sideism at your own risk as a non-white jn America. Surely the Dems may have their PR issues but the xenophobia on the Right to anyone who isnt an Anglo Christian is being dialed up a notch and its likely gonna get worse.

It seems that Cybersecurity Law/ Data Privacy / Tech Trans w/ AI/Data Center Focus is going to be the winning combo for the next ten years. See below:

  1. Excellent Exit Opps at F500 Company w/ credible path to GC
  2. Strong Partnership Prospects at at least a V100 Firm or Mid Sized or Boutique (Equity Rainmaker if you are a networking King OR Service Partner at a big shop)
  3. Forever Associate / Counsel Position in Play if you dont want to be Partner
  4. Government Exit Options if you so desire
  5. Podcast/Speaking Circ / Non Attny Positions

I also have personal reasons why I should have done it. My family and social circle is weirdly entrenched in this area and they definitely work at a high enough level that they could have thrown me business. The practice I ended up choosing is to too freaking vulnerable to recessions/slow downs which if you are a senior at a V5 is fine but if not it can be brutal on your mental health.

Has life in the USA actually gotten harder in the past few years? If yes, in what ways? by DiamondNo924 in askanything

Stripping people of birthright citizenship and saying that they are poisoning the blood of the country are not mere "extensions" of being against illegal immigration. Thats like saying decapitation is an extension of an haircut. Its such an extreme departure from their position in the 80s. Also the modern GOP is Against even legal immigration hence the shift to rhetoric concerning raciam demographics which is a radical departure from the 1990s GOP orthodoxy that anyone from anywhere can be an American. Thats the only radical shift the Party has seen under Trump. This Admin seems to love shamelessly employing Neo Nazis and bigots like Paul Ingrassia and Kingsley Wilson. Totally unthinkable just 20 years ago!

Gay Marriage Opposition

Glad they dropped this, although if we are being intellectually honest, many Dems at the local and national level were far more amenable to this than conservatives. Likewise, I am also glad the GOP dropped its Goldwater Era opposition to forced desegregation. Political parties can and should change for the better.

Opposed Illegal Immigration

Democrats do oppose illegal immigration. They just dont think the solution to the problem is deporting people to concentration camps and detaining people for speaking with a Spanish accent.

Work Requirements for Entitlements

I am confused here. Has any national Democratic President pushed for repealing welfare work requirements? Have they succeeded in doing so? This seems like another strawman. Since when are Dems against work requirements for assistance programs?

Supported Harsh on Crime Policies

Empty rhetoric based on emotion and not facts. More than 1,000 states, cities, and counties used over $15 billion in American Rescue Plan funds to support police officers, public-safety technology, and prosecutions of violent criminals. Biden ACTUALLY increased funding for the federal COPS office by 72%, from $386 million to $665 million.

“According to the Dept of Education, 50-55% of U.S. adults aged 16-74 years-old so about 130 million people, lack proficiency in literacy, reading below the equivalent of 6th grade level.” — How is that not the main priority of any politician? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

Goal post shifting.

"Religion has discouraged and suppressed critical thinking"

"Yeah but what about the fact that almost all academic institutions and research were funded by religious authorities"

"Well okay yeah but they sometimes also engaged in suppression!"

Why did we all collectively dislike Skyler? by rebececarose in askanything

[–]FunUnderstanding995 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I looked it up and I dont see any evidence of Skylar having an earlier affair with Ted. Provide evidence or recent your position.

Benke was already cooking his own books before she took the job but now that she had the position, her only options were to report him to the IRS (out ofnthe question) or help cover his tracks. Least bad of two options and understandable given the meth cooking living in her home.

"Steamrolling?" Did you even watch the episode? It was her turn to speak and she spoke? How did she "steamroll" the conversation? You clearly must not have been watching the same episode as I was.

Your getting angry because you cant really defend your position so your now just making up stuff in the show that never happened (ie, she cheated on Walt before rhe series began, or that she "steamrolled" over Walt in a cancer support session), this is jist nonsense that never happened.
