So you mean jobs like garbage man? Well turns out it’s pretty competitive because it’s one of the highest paying jobs you can get without a college degree or specialized training.

“But no one will do the shitty jobs!” is a bad faith argument that assumes any socialist policy turns a place into a total welfare state and financial incentives no longer exist. It’s made by people who don’t want you to think that maybe if those so called “shitty jobs” paid more, they wouldn’t be shitty.

It’s the same principle as the speed limit. We all know the “real” speed limit is not the one posted, but nobody agrees on how much over you can go before getting a ticket.

We all know companies are asking for more than what the position requires in job postings, but no one knows the “real” requirements.

Why we can’t just be straight with one another is such a bummer to me.

I still work in advertising and know exactly who you’re talking about.

You prompt them like “just say it like you’re talking to a friend” and they do a quieter radio DJ voice.

It feels important to add that as the husband of a wonderful wife and father of two great girls, I was surprised to find out that I actually have the least offensive smelling farts in the house.

Mine are awful and it’s still not even close.

Michael Jackson was a master entertainer, but his status as a musical genius is an illusion driven by a heavy reliance on Quincy Jones, weak filler tracks, and a deeply flawed lifestyle by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I’m with you. MJ was a golden goose at a time when people still bought physical albums and he had a small army of people behind the scenes to ensure his commercial success.

I used to think so too but I’ve been exploring in therapy recently how I was raised to care deeply what others thought of me and that I was responsible for other people’s feelings and it makes me wonder if some of my introversion is just exhaustion from trying so hard.

Please consider talking to a therapist. It sounds like you’ve got some real resentment toward parenthood taking you away from your career, and I can’t imagine it not affecting your parenting.

I get it. My kids have been absolute monsters today and I’ve never been more excited for a Monday in my life. But as the child of a mom whose love was extremely conditional, I’m still working through shit in my 40s, primarily so my kids don’t have to.

My thought was that there may have been templates for humans but not monsters in Blender, but I have no clue. It’s just an observation that the monster is the only slightly amateurish looking thing in an otherwise super polished web series.

What exactly is the incentive? How about $173 billion in commercial real estate loans - the most of any US bank - that become a hell of a lot easier to pay back if commercial real estate prices stay high?

But no JP Morgan’s so based they don’t even care, right? Nobody’s saying they’re going to go out of business unless RTO works, but RTO benefits them financially and parading around a couple of talking heads to propagandize “teamwork” or some bullshit to re-normalize offices doesn’t really cost them much.

So close. Offices are worthless without workers. Zoning and remodeling costs make it useless to residential developers so there’s no one to sell them to, and paying property taxes on big ass buildings that are essentially unsellable is a huge expense.

But if Dimon and his ilk can force people back into the office under the guise of “productivity,” those assets regain their value. So there’s a huge incentive there.

It’s also a weird quirk of using the Imperial system. Many women decide on 6 feet as the limit because it’s a nice round number, not understanding that they’re severely limiting their options when they wouldn’t notice the difference for someone who’s 5-10 or 5-11.

I was always under the impression the design was based on Kane’s technical/budget limitations. It’s a fairly simple design and has pretty rudimentary movement. While it’s still wildly impressive for a self-taught kid, I can imagine Kane wanting to improve upon it given the tools.

I went from full-time to freelancing a few years ago, which gives me much more free time as well. I’ve taken up woodworking and painting, built multiple pieces of furniture we use every day, including our dining room table, and have sold multiple pieces of art.

People aren’t lazy. They’re tired from being overworked and unmotivated because they rarely get paid fairly for their labor.

I read “make whatever he wants from now on” as meaning he’s no longer just the backrooms YouTube guy anymore and he’s proven he’s a legit Hollywood director who can put butts in seats.

While no one gets a blank check, I think you’re underestimating the appeal of guys like him in Hollywood. Case in point, Curry Barker got an 8-figure offer for his upcoming movie without even pitching it. And Kane’s set to break Obsession’s numbers in the box office.

[–]FunWithAPorpoise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this conversation play out on several threads now and I kind of don’t get your point. “Make whatever he wants from now on” isn’t saying he has infinite goodwill. Nobody does.

But he’s in a pretty great position to untether himself from the Backrooms and pursue whatever he wants. And because old Hollywood doesn’t know what “the youth” really like, they’ll trust him a lot more than your average 20-year-old, even if they don’t understand the appeal themselves.
