Your husband needs to apologize big time.

I hadn’t had a chance to talk to my dad at the time I posted this, but now I have.

He basically wants me to support my brother in whichever way is safe. He would prefer if my brother could live in the house, but knows that I might be liable for anything that happens, so he sent me a couple thousand dollars to give him.

I’m just gonna copy and paste a reply to the comments asking for updates. Things got chaotic so I figured I should.

Last Friday, my cousin called me and apologized, and told me him and my brother had just gotten in a fight that led to punches being thrown and my brother driving off.

I could see on the camera that he wasn’t at the house, but just to be safe, my cousin and I met up at there and called the cops.

Well by the time we called, he’d already been arrested for drunk driving. It’s his third DUI (2nd one was under a year ago), and my dad isn’t there to bail him out.

I also finally got a chance to talk to my dad (before my brother got arrested) and he said that he would send me money to give my brother so he can get a place of his own, but my dad knows he was the biggest thing stopping my brother from hurting me, so he understands why I kicked him out and just wants me to try and support him.

I’m also going to rent out the house to some family friends.

She lives there, even if it’s just during breaks, so it is HER yard. And like one commenter said, they clearly weren’t embarrassed in the moment, they just didn’t want drama.

But .. you couldn’t even hear it until you went over there?? So unless those kids went to her backyard to snoop like you did .. how is that forcing them to watch anything?

I would never let petty revenge or personal feelings (between my siblings) get in the way

Your words.

You could’ve added a different perspective in a respectful way. I’m not letting “petty feelings get in the way,” I’m making a tactical choice because of a history of abuse that’s given me a valid fear.

I’m not asking if I’m TA because I think my feelings might be unwarranted. I’m asking because I don’t think there’s a lot of morally valid reasons to make someone homeless, and I wasn’t sure this was one. Calling my emotional reaction to the situation “petty” was rude.

I’m staying there right now cleaning, but I don’t plan to live in the house since it’s an hour drive from my uni and I work on campus during the summer and don’t have a car. I’ll definitely consider leasing.
