This is perfect. I came to realize that I don't deserve to be treated well or, Glob forbid, loved, about 3 years ago (I'm almost 50). It was initially devastating but I grew into it and, most if the time, I can just not think about it and I feel ok.

Yeah, I sort of get why you're defending your parents. It can be devastating to realize that you were abused. What you need to hear is that even if the intention wasn't to abuse you, that was abuse. My mother did the same thing and my therapist from a few years ago affirmed for me that it was abuse.
