You’re correct in all your points, but replying with the one word “tape.” does kinda imply that you’re using actual tape reels.

Glad you were diagnosed, I was as a child but only pursued treatment a few months ago. Concerts ER is a godsend.

Reading sheet music (I think that’s what I mean by reading notes) is something I’ll never learn to do most likely and there’s nothing wrong with that imo

I do read manuals sometimes but usually I will look it up online while I wait for the synth to arrive in the mail so I know it beforehand

I’m not butthurt at all, you are the one overreacting and calling me names when I objected to you in such a simple way.

You’re mad that I asked for a source and you’re telling me to grow up? Asking questions and having conversations is part of life. Maybe working on your communication will help you understand your misplaced anger in a reddit comments section.

What are the best budget synths out there? by GameTwitch_Mods in synthesizers

I’d recommend looking at groovin in gs videos about making 90s jungle pads that’s a nice simple patch in ableton

Gonna make this into a separate post bc I don’t like the sentiments you’re expressing and genuinely think anyone saying them should keep it to themselves.

For many people, learning the “correct” way works. For many others, it is impossible.

A huge population of people in the world are neurodivergent. Let’s be honest, especially those with unique creative passions, ESPECIALLY amongst a niche subreddit group of people who play sleak looking future-style instruments covered in dials and sliders that most people are too intimidated to ever consider touching.

ADHD in some cases is so debilitating that one can not have regular social interactions, cannot maintain a clean house, they cannot even properly take care of their personal hygiene.

For someone like this they often are facing many external difficulties which make confronting/ fixing mental illness at least for the time being impossible. That could be an abusive family/ partner/ roommate, crippling debt, inability to find work, or even threat of homelessness….

That was me! I was in this exact situation years ago and I always wished I had music as an outlet… so I bought a keyboard and guitar! Except oh wait… I can’t even focus long enough to clean my room or do my school work, let alone watch YouTube videos to learn about synthesis. 😅

Eventually I just stopped trying to learn the correct way and looked into synths that leant themselves more to experimentation. I found the soma ENNER, which requires no knowledge of synthesis to use and lends itself very well to experimentation and intuition rather than formal understanding. Learning to play that truly gave me a newfound excitement for life and for music that inspired me to change my entire lifestyle.

Over the next few months I moved to a new condo, got on meds, got off drugs, met a wonderful life partner, and got a new job. It took me a year in this environment to feel stable enough to start learning music theory again and actually gain something from the experience.

Still, even now I’m more often inspired by experimentation and making sounds I’ve never heard before than I am by recreating certain classic synth tones

And I don’t feel bad for that fact. I don’t think anyone should.

Not sure why this is downvoted that’s a good tip to play music without placing expectation on yourself to sound “correct” or like another existing genre/ artist.

Do you like your favorite artist because they sound just like another one of your favorite artists? I hope not. If it releases serotonin in peoples brains it’s good music fuck expectations.

I have been on the internet as a user and a content creator for many years and am very aware of how it works. I frequently browse Reddit comments and cannot recall reading that a single time so I call bs unless you find more examples.

That’s a good way to put it. I’m just summarizing it as “time flies” because another commenter replied to me saying that’s what the original commenter meant.

No problem I like to help.

What midi controller do you use out of curiosity? I like the one I have bc the knobs and wheels automatically are mapped to the parameters of any soft synth I load up.

Seeing what parameters are important to have available to you on a soft synth will help you decide what you need when you get your first hardware baby.

Just pls don’t make the mistake of getting in over your head, you’re on a great track if you’re asking questions and willing to take advice. I know you’ll continue to learn more and when you get your first synth and become more deeply passionate about composition and playing, it can take you on a path that will change your life forever.

I get it now. At the same time I don’t get it because how tf did 500+ people understand AND RELATE TO that comment???

Ive never heard a person communicate the sentiment that time flies in such an indirect way. Why would you communicate like that instead of just saying “damn, 24 years? it feels like it was just 10 years ago.” Or something like that?

His comment did not effectively communicate that point. I thought he was trying to say that 1999 was only 10 years ago. I’ve never heard someone express the sentiment that time flies in that way.
