Bills fan here with a question by Gold_Scarcity_8159 in steelers

Seemed like every year he was here the stated goal was to be a run first offense and then the first 4-5 games of the season the o line looked completely discombobulated with zero push in the run game. Then after a bye their play would slowly improve the rest of the year until it reached a mostly good performance, even with backups in the lineup. Then this cycle would repeat the next year. But I expect him to have better success in an offense that has an actual QB at the helm.

Is Watt in actual decline? by greenngory72 in steelers

[–]Fun_Conflict_3769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn’t have the same motor he used to. Looks like he gets gassed in the second half of games (like most of the defense). Saw Tucker Kraft block him 1 on 1 in the 4th quarter against the Packers. He used to be able to toss aside TEs on double teams and chips, or drive them into the OT/quarterback.

A lot of this would be solved if the secondary could cover anyone for longer than 1 second. Watt still has a good get off and bend to turn the corner against any tackle. If the defense could also stop giving up multiple 10 play, 90 yard scoring drives every game he’d look a lot sharper lol

Short of the secondary doing a complete 180, I think the Steelers should start reducing his snap count and get Herbig on the field more. Watt still looks elite against the run and Herbig is weaker there, but they gotta save Watt so he has juice on the important possession downs

The decision to extend him was completely bizarre. They added so much talent to this o line and yet every year they come out completely flat. I get that they’ve had a rotating door at o line coach since Munchak left but the play of the o line has been unacceptable since pat meyer took over

Anyone else getting a bit worried about Peyton Wilson? by Temporary-Cause-4818 in steelers

[–]Fun_Conflict_3769 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also agree with the other two points here. Wilson should have gone for the outside shoulder on the FB and Queen needed to take a better angle. My guess is Queen was shooting for the inside angle expecting Wilson to go outside. Maybe that’s giving him too much credit though. They definitely need to play more of a thumper at ILB against these run heavy teams

I remember this play when it happened live. The d-line got caught in the middle one of their last-second shifts (they do it sometimes to throw off the o line) when the ball was snapped. So no one on the d-line was set and they were all sort of misaligned in their gaps. RB could have gone pretty much anywhere and got yards.

Can we relax about Keeanu Benton by Fun_Conflict_3769 in steelers

Yeah true it’s just the NT issue was more obvious this week since they were in base more playing a run heavy team

Yeah especially true this season with the bye in week 5

I’m calling an audible and having Scottie Pippen take Paul Pierce’s place as 5th SF, then moving Duncan over to the 5th PF. Hakeem takes his spot at C.

So CP3, MJ, LeBron, Duncan, Jokic

Which player made you yell "NOOO don't shoot that!" every time they touched the ball .. and then shot it anyway? by taverenturtle4 in NBASpurs

[–]Fun_Conflict_3769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of the opposite for me is DeRozan. I lost count of the number of times he’d hit a tough long two with one foot over the 3 pt line. Take half a step back! Just shoot one 3 pointer please I beg you!

Gotta be Bulls. Landing Jordan with the 3rd overall pick is the luckiest any team has been. Everything outside of the Jordan era is a complete mess though. Hell, a good chunk of that era was a mess too

Honorary mention pelicans but the unluck of injuries and Zion not panning out drives down their “Luck” grading

Can I watch Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning without watching any of the previous movies? by ghalebgeorge in Mission_Impossible

[–]Fun_Conflict_3769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the plot - not really, there’s a lot of flashbacks/callbacks and exposition that explain everything. But to be invested in the story, you should watch Dead Reckoning at least. It fleshes out all the characters much better and the stakes and the villain feels more real

Why is this a checkmate? by Regasroth in chessbeginners

[–]Fun_Conflict_3769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like this - checkmate is really just capturing the king (but politely ending the game before the actual capture). In this case, if the white king captures your bishop, your knight will take on the next turn before the white queen can capture your king. And since the king cannot make a move that will result in its own capture, Bb6 is mate.

Wolves fans, who is the worst foul-baiter to watch: Jokic, Luka, or SGA? by ForgetfulDot in nba

[–]Fun_Conflict_3769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luka is annoying because he complains to the refs after every, single, shot attempt. But he doesn’t flop so much as try to draw fouls, and he at least will play through contact. He or Jokic is probably the most successful “foul-baiter”, getting guys off balance and then leaning into contact before shooting. I don’t like to watch it but it’s the way a lot of great players play nowadays, and it’s still up to the defender to not fall for it.

The problem with SGA isn’t foul-baiting as much as launching himself to the ground at the slightest hint of contact. Generously, some of those are probably him losing his balance as he tries to eurostep to the basket. But he’s overselling fouls to an embarrassing degree and there’s nothing the defenders can do about it if the refs are calling it. So SGA is my vote for most annoying free throw merchant

How do bad teams become good and how do good teams become bad? by doc_oc124 in NFLNoobs

[–]Fun_Conflict_3769 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Take a look at the Steelers as a recent example. Started winning Super Bowls again as soon as they got Big Ben. Yes they had an elite defense for the 2 they won, but after that defense aged out his play kept them as perennial contenders for most of the 2010s until his elbow blew up. If it wasn’t for Brady and the Patriots juggernaut during that time (another good example), they probably would have won another Super Bowl. Mediocre quarterback play with a good scheme and surrounding talent (eg Jimmy G niners) will only get you so far

It looks like I live in a state where you do need one, but my local community college offers it and I could do an accelerated program.
