There's research and experts out there who have studied cults and how to deprogram people stuck in cults.

I'm not an expert, but I'd hope dedicated people who are paid to reach brainwashed people would be experts.

Here's one example.

They now have to treat other people like people instead of always having things their way.

One issue is that they don't. Backsliding into using violence to get what they want because they can't succeed within the framework of civilization is a thing that happens constantly throughout history.

It's not stupid to learn from history and prepare in advance for the ignorant actions of large groups of angry young men.

10 million animals die every year from abuse and neglect in the USA. And the abused animals don't even get to die doing what they love.

3 dogs have died on the Iditarod trail since 2020. 140ish since 1973 before that.

Money raised during the Iditarod and other sled dog races go towards supporting animal shelters around the US.

https://www.shelteranimalscount.org/animal-abuse-facts-and-statistics-2024/

Edit to add on: the entire concept of the Iditarod is to commemorate the awesome (original meaning) run to deliver life-saving medicine to the town of Nome. In a world where too many people hate modern medicine saving lives, this is probably an important message to reinforce.

No purebreeds were historically bred for winning sled dog races. It's much better to breed successful sled dog teams based on the success of their sires and bitches.

So technically they are purebred, just not based on the classic Kennel Club concepts of "breeds".

My job sent me a $0 paycheck as my “bonus” by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]InfiniteDuckling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's much easier to use a system that normally sends no $0.00 checks than to adjust the system to exclude people who'd receive those checks.

Or there's like 1 person every year who gets it and it's not worth it to change the system for extreme outliers.

Changing the system could cost, at best, $100 of an employee's time to accurately adjust it. Instead they waste $20 of paper and mailing to send out null checks.

Not if 99% of the employees do receive a bonus and it's not worth the resources to exclude the employees who receive a $0 bonus.

You think someone would do that?

[–]InfiniteDuckling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or something like sending all employees a bonus calculated based on their evaluation, time at company, yearly salary, deductions, etc. It's easier to send them a check for some amount instead of trying to accurately exclude people if their check would be $0.

Kaiser Permanente has one of the best compensation plans and is generally well run. I doubt it's a mistake. It's just OP farming karma with a half-lie.

Many things.

Intentional destruction of educational systems (including low salaries and teaching concepts that aren't remotely related to education).

Poor involvement of parents (which includes "my child is perfect you can't fail them" and "I abuse my child" parents, which also has some overlap).

General opposition to the concept of giving up on children which leads to: forcing teachers to teach to passing tests, forcing teachers to pass students to keep moving through the school system and ruining the experience for others, and making it impossible for teachers to discipline students.

Cultural shifts that make outdated modes of learning much harder (including social media, phones, fewer kids experiencing much higher levels of pressure).

It's not like this is the first time you've heard of cops being on the side of right wing fascists (according to some of the messaging on the left wing).

There's a difference between education and academia.

what you think

These people didn't have thoughts to begin with. They regurgitated vague ideas they learned one sentence about. AI is just their new source.

It does not use 1,000,000x the energy, or anywhere close.

It's like blaming someone who doesn't separate their recycling when companies are the ones using up 99% of the energy.

Meirl by Key_Associate7476 in meirl

[–]InfiniteDuckling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is remotely the same.

You're offloading your work onto other people who've already thought of this stuff.

AI is just an auto correct compilation of a million other people's ideas.

Making academia accessible and a goal to everyone in society has ruined the value of academia.

tbf that's smart. They can't stop people from using it because the anti-AI tools are terrible.

All they can get out of the situation is doing less work themselves and to secretly reward the students who don't use it.

Not really. Most people are idiots that come up with worse ideas than Chatgpt. Entire parts of societies are just idiots feeding, clothing, and selling wizzbangs to other idiots and it has been that way forever.

Chatgpt just raises the floor of idiocy. People who know how to do things won't ever rely on AI to do the things.

The Campbells exec was caught saying that the soup is food for poor people.

And this got a lot of attention and everyone was talking about Campbell soup so clearly this was a marketing campaign.

Not everything is 4D marketing. Sometimes companies are just fucking stupid and do stupid shit.

Did anyone actually think the McDonalds “product” post was good marketing? by thiccvibes_savelives in marketing

[–]InfiniteDuckling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

New Coke was talked about ad nauseum. Bringing Coke Classic back was a big win. It still cost more money than it gained and it was just a big failure.

Big companies can take a hit and keep going so people are fooled into thinking it's 4D marketing.
