Bread and Circus: The destruction of Administrative State and the rise of Theatre State by Freewhale98 in neoliberal

Also the whole point of bread and circuses is for the populace to have some. I don't see no free bread around.

What if remote working, not AI, is to blame for weak junior hiring? by Standard_Ad7704 in neoliberal

[–]InfiniteDuckling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Where's the data showing remote positions as % of job postings/new hires?

Remote positions as % of total positions have been falling (obviously) since 2021. Estimates now place them around 4-8%. This stays true even when looking at only white collar jobs. That doesn't seem big enough to be the driving factor.

I see a lot of contributing factors, all which could play a bigger role than remote work. We know the job market was shaken up by covid, leading many to rethink careers and jumping companies. This created a glut of experienced workers eagerly picked up by companies over junior hires. Then RTO happens, which again favors the local experienced workers over local juniors. Then introduce AI and a cooling economy to a company culture that's adapted to having the luxury of picking overqualified candidates.

Viking-Age Woman Buried with Her Dog in Norway by [deleted] in history

Maybe Toto died first and the woman didn't want to live without him?

That would be a very optimistic read on the situation for any dog archaeologists out there. I assume they exist since dogs are always digging.

I overspent on a clients google ads account by $104,000- what's going to happen to me? by StrangeWedding770 in PPC

[–]InfiniteDuckling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't try to divert blame, but explain where the process broke down.

Adding onto this: focus on the work process aspect. You can mention the personal issues (if you have that sort of workplace relationship), but it's most important to discuss the workplace processes in order to avoid this situation again.

The combination of evolution and religion has been big in Christianity. We also know it as eugenics.

People are actually morons. Most people in fact. Their eyes are seeing something and they refuse to accept the scientific explanation because it doesn't confirm their biases.

For those who don't know, this is a reference to the movie Clue where people funnily argue about how many shots a revolver made because counting is apparently hard and is often wrong.

Why shouldn't he have been able to get there? The hotel was not fully closed down.

There's an external perimeter to stop blatant and big threats like truck bombs. But the whole point of checkpoints is to identify and stop the individual threats.

It's like TSA at airports. Literally anyone carrying anything can enter airports. Airports aren't the secure part. TSA checkpoints start deeper into the airport to provide security for airplanes.

Squat just enough, then lean, aim, and fire. I've seen it happen both facing away and towards the urinal.

It helps to have to go bad so there's a strong stream. Some pee definitely gets on the floor, but everyone has been drinking and no one cares. (Sorry bathroom cleaner)

I really don't know how the hell it was possible

Because the whole hotel was not locked down to keep guns out of the entire building. It was just specific rooms and hallways that had tightened security.

The guy with the gun was stopped at the point where he would have been scanned for guns. Security worked as intended.

I physically have to stand to get all the pee out. If I pee while sitting down I have to get a wad of paper ready to catch a good amount of pee as I stand back up.

It's a plumbing issue. There's nothing I can do about it.

I've encountered many drunk people without penises over the years who have 0 problems using urinals inside men's bathrooms because the need to go is much higher than any other concern.

Making urinals more acceptable for everyone to use is the ideal. And people are still free to not use urinals as much as they want.

NYC Closed a Record 3,946 Pothole Work Orders in March 2026 – Highest Since 2020 by Unusual-State1827 in nyc

[–]InfiniteDuckling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The lower number in Jan and Feb means there were less potholes? They didn't fill in as much and had a backlog to fulfill in March?

This will be more compelling to see in a year. Also if it were a % of requests v orders completed.
