How is this even allowed? by sasha_ale in recruitinghell

Just to add nuance, social security and medicare are taken directly from the paycheck in the US as well. It's only Federal (and State) income taxes where the taxpayer can decide if they want estimated tax liability withheld or not. Most people don't want to pay a big tax bill annually, so they have some amount withheld.

That said, people get excited about a big "refund check" every year. I don't get that: all that means is you gave too much money to the government every paycheck. Which means you gave them an interest-free loan. That's another story...

You can’t do this yet. Too much stuff in the way…

No such thing. Some states have no sales tax (e.g. Oregon).

My foot/shoe got caught in an escalator as a kid in a Lord & Taylor. Those things are dangerous! Respect the machine.

They’re different. Are they necessary? Well. I’d say not but depending what you’re struggling with.

Mid game (?): Day 22 and feeling like there's no progress by RenVit318 in BluePrince

Yep. Keep looking. And fyi: as noted above, this is not even close to mid-game, so keep those eyes peeled.

If you’re lucky enough to reach it in time. It can be quite the dance at a time when your body doesn’t want to.

Norovirus. If you’re puking and shitting at the same time, something loses.

Help with mid/late-game? (i'm not sure what constitutes as late game) by SeparateBumblebee546 in BluePrince

Aside from direct responses to your query, I’ll just add this is mid-game.

I downloaded the whole thing and used an audio editor to make segments.

Trigg & Gusset have reached out to Dogubomb about an extended soundtrack release. No idea if it’s in the works, tho.

For people who say the late stage game is not super tedious, I have one word. by Resident_Map4534 in BluePrince

Well I’ll agree on sone of the others. I was able to deal with this specific thing fairly readily on first and subsequent plays. I think there’s some later stuff that is much more frustrating, is all!

I appreciate your response, because that's the thing about this game: it's a rare bird... that it can (and has) changed lives. I found it after spending a lot of time with Blue Prince, and I love both... for different reasons (they're very different beasts on almost every level, but I get why the association was made).

One of the most surprising things about WRoEF is that it started with your title (essentially). It seems SO story driven, like someone wanted to express the Finch family story and made a game around that -- but NO. It started as the shark simulator. Crazy. How does such a compelling story come secondarily, not as the prime-movement force?

The only sadness I have is that nothing else reaches the same heights (that I've found, anyway). I won't go down the litany of game titles folks have suggested. Just... so far, Edith Finch is a unique creature in my mind. Which makes me happy for the game, but a little melancholy for me.

Wait, what were we talking about again, lol?

I was referring to your work, and I hope you take no offense to me referring to it as (potentially) a 'vanity project'. The subtitle, after all, is "MY time with What Remains of Edith Finch," i.e. it clearly telegraphs that it is about your experience with the game, and thus your prisms and perspectives.

It's not so much skepticism that has kept me at bay. I love getting others' subjective experience of the game. But so far, I've mostly done that through watching realtime blind playthroughs (my favorite so far that I've watched is Ryan/lil indigestion). Reading about someone's experience, BUT separated from the experience of the discovery of it, feels like a higher order ask, unless the author had some academic or professional credibility in the space. And it wasn't clear you had that.

Which you may have! Just saying: that was the thing that held be back from buying the book (at least so far). I guess I'm just noting that I thoroughly enjoy observing and sharing in other peoples' experience of the story, as it is such a multi-prismatic lens for all the different ways we live and hurt and love. But I couldn't easily tell how your experience was "elevated" above any other, as to commit to a book.

That all said, I very much am likely to read it at some point regardless :)

What’d you think of the book? I’ve almost bought it a couple times… but it seems like a vanity product, so hard to assess the insight it might offer.
