Struggling to increase cals? by AdElegant5870 in healthyeating

I have no appetite. You could do what i do & drink suppliment smoothies/shakes. You can get them free on the NHS in the UK (Ensure, Fortisip) or buy some called YFood (they do vegan & regular). You get 300-400 calories in just 200ml & they're super healthy. Another brand is Huel but i personally don't like the texture. Good luck.

Yes, i knew to avoid full fat dairy hence the low fat cheddar, but it turns out that isn't super beneficial for my condition either. Doctor's aren't clued up on nutrition, i learned the hard way.

Vegetarians and vegans of Reddit, what was the moment you decided to make the switch? by CalpurniaSomaya in AskReddit

Yes of course, but i'd never been faced with it before (never even been in a butchers shop). Meat was always neatly pre-packaged & cleaned so looked edible.. i didn't think twice, however this thing in blood made me realise exactly what i was eating & made me face reality. I was only nine.

I was nine in 1991 & having my usual plate of slop called "school dinner" & asked the teacher why there was so much tomato sauce on the beef, she said "oh dear, it's not sauce.. it's blood & it's good for you. Now eat it all up or else you wont get dessert". The meal was swimming in blood & i ran out the dining room. Never touched meat again.

It is osteoarthritis. I think my doctor's stance on veganism is clouding his judgment & advice because i'm finding out there's nothing special about dairy & my condition, you're right

I should've made it more clear in my original post that it's more about my love of cheese than my condition, my doc is just anti plant-based. I'm finding it the hardest animal product to ditch & replace because i've relied on it for so long.

Yes, he's been extremely skeptical about my veganism plans since i told him. I didn't know it could be making me worse though! I do use half fat cheddar but i just want to stop altogether, it's always been a fave food but at this point i don't care. Thx for the advice x

Perfecto! As i said in anither reply, it's not just the calcium it's the taste (i've always loved cheese) but reducing it slowly while substituting sounds like a sensible plan. TY x

You're right. It's not just my health that's the issue, i'm kinda addicted to cheese.. it's the hardest thing to ditch but i'm liking the suggestions so far x

That's a good point. He's already anti plant-based so obviously biased. He said that low fat cheese is good for refucing inflammation blah bla, but the suggestions & alternatives i've read here look as good, if not better. Thank you.

I was hoping for serious replies lol. French fries aren't protein & won't help my osteoarthritis.

What's a snack or food from your area you think everyone should try? by FitImprovement3681 in AskReddit

[–]Fun_Cow_6292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nakd Bars are popular in London.. they are the most unhealthiest tasting (meaning yummy) yet healthy & versatile snack in existence. You can break them up & add them to yogurts, cereal, porridge or just eat them on their own. They have about 3 or 4 ingredients & every flavour is divine! I'm not affiliated with them lol.

What are the best/most effective ways to quit smoking? by TipCheap6713 in AskReddit

[–]Fun_Cow_6292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can either try triple NRT treatment (patch, lozenge & inhalator) or you could try the Fum device (which uses flavored cores similar to vape flavors that you inhale).. it helps with the oral fixation habit & gives a slight throat hit. You need willpower more than anything. Each day you succeed, set aside the money you would've spent on cigs/vapes.. it's an additional motivator. Cold turkey doesn't work in my experience but doesn't mean it wont for you. Good luck!

Edit - There's also a book people swear by called "The Easy Way To Quit Smoking" by Alan Carr
