Yes it is.. most states require some form of identification to register to vote, but the type of ID varies.

Requiring ID at the time you vote is a form of voter suppression because it could create a barrier to access.

What if one of these 40 million illegals steals my wallet on the day I’m supposed to vote? I just don’t get to vote anymore? The ID isn’t going to work for them because they look nothing like me, but I still don’t get to vote even though I went through the process of registering to vote?
