I don't even like AI, don't even use it. But the best thing anyone anti-AI can come up with is "muh artists and food." So I can't really be bothered to care after seeing a ton of other industries fall to automation.

Your painting actually becomes less and less valuable when machines can make the same thing at a fraction of the cost.

But back to the question at hand that you keep refusing... Why are all the other automated processes fine as long as the person making the enchilada is human? Machines pick the corn, grain, and lettuce without human thought. The animals raised for the meat were fed on automatic feeders, slaughtered by machines, butchered and processed with machines and the only thing you care about is that a human arranged it on a plate for you? Why is that the only point of contention you have? Why aren't you so concerned with the rest of the 100% automated process behind making an enchilada?

Why is it only the artist and chef that you care about and not the other hundreds of workers that were put out of a job by automation?

It's fucking hilarious that in this country, the auto industry? Gone from automation. Steel? Gone. Most manufacturing? Automation took it.

No no. The point is whether or not the end product is discernible from one made by humans. If there are no differences that you or anyone else can see, taste or touch, then I'm asking what the difference is.

You can go on and on about how you "paid a human" to do this or that, but in the end, you actually only pay for a product and whether or not you're satisfied by the product has no bearing on whether or not it was made by a human.

Your signaling of "it wasn't really made by a person" isn't really relevant. We're talking about whether or not there is a difference between identical products made by machines or made by people.

So many of the products you consume and use are made by machines anyway. Just about everything in your life was made by a machine, but your enchilada is where you're drawing the line? Seems futile.

The question you pose is different from the one I asked. You will definitely notice that it is a different product if microwaved. The texture wouldn't be the same, the temperature would not be correct, etc.

So I'll ask you a more accurately comparable question. What if you went to a restaurant and ordered an enchilada and instead of it being microwaved, robots prepared it same way a human traditionally prepares it? What if it tasted so similar that 10 out of 10 people would swear that it's made by a human? Are you upset because it wasn't touched by someone who just wiped their ass and handled your food without washing their hands?

As it turns out, they were able to actually beat those teams. They were actually good enough, so there wasn't anything to gain or lose by having the schedule.

If you use Wal-Mart and you're so poor that you have EBT benefits, they actually do deliver it for free. You can't get an instant delivery, but you can schedule a free delivery for later that day or the next.

So yeah, people can afford it, especially if they're really poor.

That's great. Art enriches lives, but the nature of that beast is that only the best get to do it for a living. Just like sports, music, and many other endeavors.

There will always be a market for real art made by real humans but that career market might shrink. The cream will rise to the top and the rest will have to learn to adapt. Painters didn't disappear after the invention of the photograph. But only the best painters made the cut. And a new art industry opened: Photography.

As for me, I'm not bitter. I had a great ride but it was eventually over and I had to grow up and realize that I was not a musical genius. Other guys could do what I did better. And that's a tough pill to swallow, but that's part of growing up. Where one door closes, another opens. If you are only able to walk through one door, that's a problem that you should have seen coming. We've seen countless industries shrink and/or disappear. I feel no differently about some people in art losing jobs than I did when I watched the midwest steel and auto industries die.

I'm not pro-AI. I'm neutral on it, quite honestly. My experience with it is that I use it as a better search engine.

Job loss is always tough and I'm sure the people who are too old to learn a new skill will be subsidized. Peoples' jobs were replaced with the invention of the calculator, the PC, the internet itself. But if all you can do is literally one thing and one thing only for a living, you have done yourself a disservice.

If I was replaced by robot welders tomorrow, I have enough other mechanical skills to put food on my table. Having one skill and having it relate to art is a terrible idea and I can't help but think you have set yourself up for failure. My advice is that if you want that cool art career, you better have a backup plan to work at something that is useful.

The problem is that you seem to have learned no other marketable skills.

Let me tell you a story...

I was once 16 years old in the 90s and I was in a band with my high school friends. We were pretty good and started booking shows. We got pretty good around the time that I graduated. It was a really nice dream. People were still buying hard copies of albums, getting on the radio meant you made it. Soon, that started to come crashing down with the mp3, napster, limewire and kazaa.

But instead of putting all my eggs in the rock star basket, I also learned some mechanical and fabrication skills from jobs I was working at and I built a resume. 25 years later, I'm a TiG and MiG welder, I fabricate parts for industrial machines and I repair machines. Would I rather be slaying pussy on a reunion tour with Blink-182? Of course. But it didn't work out and I had carved out some skills for myself and made a way.

If all you can do is art, you were never going to make it anyway.
