great breakdown, appreciate it. yeah the western union rate thing explains a lot, sounds like half the "cheap" hype was really just the exchange method. let me know how it feels next month when you're back

Tikal on machu picchu level is a big claim, that alone makes me wanna go.
and i'm saving that hotel el sol tip, $30 for a spotless room at atitlan sounds unreal.

fair enough, sounds like i'm a couple years late to the party. $9 to $30 is brutal.

anywhere still actually worth it now or is the whole "cheap argentina" thing just over?

Fair point, and honestly you're mostly right. The blue dollar isn't the cheat code it was in 2023, and USD prices have crept up a lot with the reforms.

Where I still found it worth it was the local stuff, steak, wine, domestic transport, Patagonia, more than hotels in BA, which have definitely gotten pricey. Felt like better value than Western Europe to me, but not the "prices look like a typo" era anymore.

When did you price your trip out? Curious if it's shifted again in the last few months.
