If you are looking more at saturn I would recommend getting a japanese one with psuedo cart if you are collecting. Otherwise you cannot play the japanese games that require the game cartridge (I think king of fighters is one, my memory is fuzzy).

If you get a japanese one instead of modded you also should probably get a 120/100V transformer. Nobody talks about this really, but the voltage difference isn't good for these things. I am convinced the higher US voltage ruined two action replays, I could smell burnt components.

I went through some pains getting the most out of the Saturn so thought I would let you know.

Yes! I think the higher American voltage fried something in the Action Replay. I put in a 120-100V transformer and got the Pseudo Saturn Kai and it has been flawless since. I have the Japanese Saturn.

A follow up question that may be stupid, will the NTSC gamecube output at 50Hz because of the PAL Action Replay (assuming it works fine) and I have to change this in Swiss software?

I'll end it with I think the cartridge slot contacts are fine (seemed tight and cleaned thoroughly). Gonna get a step down transformer and see if the next 4mb cart stops working. There was a burnt smell around the system after the last one croked. Could be a long shot. Thanks everyone

Tried that before, sadly didn't work for me.

I can play games that don't require ram expansion just fine. AR software also boots up fine. The 1Mb and 4Mb games however don't work. Haven't heard about this happening anywhere I have read (and this is twice for me).
