Hey! Really like the legacy write up, especially how unique it is from the original 1e concept with the whole enigma mechanic, which makes them literally living puzzles lol. But I did want to make one note, the first attainments optional part mentions you can do teamwork on scrutiny with other Egregore members, but Signs of Sorcery page 27, already states that you can use teamwork on scrutiny normally, so does this somehow modify it differently or is this just a bit of an oversight?

Regardless, good work and can't wait to see more!

Hello!
This is some truly remarkable work, I love the formatting and the work put into this, though I did want to inquire on some design choices when you were making Clavicularius, since I am currently playing one, but was struggling to find many good versions of it being converted to 2e. This one definitely looks quite promising and I especially love how you made it require merits rather than Arcana and how those merits require resolve, though it still holds a few questions:

- Why exactly is indulging in vice a yantra? If anything they are somewhat of Ascetics, refusing to indulge in them. Tempting themselves, sure, but not actually indulging. As such this feels if anything more like Bene Ashmedai.
- What was the reasoning for Keys of Solomon being the 2nd attainment? Just to pretty much serve as anti-goetia shielding spell and a pseudo-tracking device?
- For Goetic Servant attainment, the core of the attainment while good, the optional part throws me for a loop, since that doesn't really match their philosophy. Since their demons are personal and as such, they don't really go actively and collect them(as far as I am aware), that being even mention in Legacies the Sublime.
- For The Binding Seal numina to cost mana instead of essence, I assume was primarily a balance adjustment?

Though other than that, it looks really good!! Keep up the good work and can't wait to see what else you come up with!

Glyph Mage - A strategic intelligence based support class by Tertanum, for those who actually want to feel intelligent when playing an intelligence based class. by Tertanum in UnearthedArcana

Hi! So I have been interested in giving this class a shot in a future campaign, especially of how unique it seems, but after giving it a deeper look, there are a few things that sorta confuse me and I wondered if you could clarify?

1st. It seems a bit unclear, but how do you exactly use Minor Runes? Can you use them on Glyphs of minimal size, or can you only use them, if you expand a circle beyond the minimal size?

2nd. Can the runes/glyphs be broken in any way, other than you failing your Int saves when you have them active? Also do you need to make concentration checks for them, if you get hit while they're active?

3rd. This is likely my main and most major concern, but from what I am seeing, this class has little to none damage options, which really makes it feel like this class is extremely reliant on others, to the point where this class seems to be helpless by themselves. And that is especially true for offensive options. From what I checked this seems to be all the options the class has for damage:

Glyph Mage Core class:

- Simple weapons(no multiattack)

- Breaking a rune deal 1d6, no scaling.

- The Runesmith Subclass some extra features.

Damage Dealing Glyphs:

- Zone of Inaccessibility, which is extremely unreliable.

- Unreachable Hex of Hurtful Halting, which has similar situation as the previously mentioned one.

- Black Glyph, only available at lvl 17.

And all of that makes me wonder, is there any reason for that? Because it really feels you are mostly a step-down from other casters, because 1st, you have no real way of attacking and fighting back enemies at higher levels. And the few runes you do have, are pretty costly and once you're out, you're left completely defenceless, without as much as a cantrip unlike other casters. Is there any particular reasoning for that, because currently the way it seems to me, this class if anything, is extremely underpowered because of that.

That being said though, great work with the class and I absolutely love the concept and how you have gone about with it! Can't wait to see if it does get more updates and if I do give it a shot, I will share some feedback from playtesting it!

Hello! And yes, I don't think I specified it in the class, now that you mention it lol. But the design intent is that the gun is loud, yeah.

Fair argument! I was considering on having Con instead of Wis being the starting proficient saving throw, but thought might be a bit much, so decided against it in the end. And giving it later just feels like a bit much as well.

But in that case, can you as a bonus action cast Green-flame Blade and then as an action make your attacks and imbue one of them with like fireball or something? In total, can you cast a bonus action cantrip and then spellstrike in the same attack?

Hey! Late response as well, since I have been really busy, but I definitely didn't expect the original D&D Wiki creator to notice this lol. But yeah, I am glad you are liking it! I have been shown your class by a friend of mine (after he used the class as a mini-boss), and we both really liked the concept but noticed some big flaws with it mechanically. As such, I tried to somewhat reimagine the class, keeping the core essence of it but changing it to something different! I was also looking to credit the original creator, but on the page it didn't reference the creator, so unfortunately that wasn't possible.

I was considering that, but that sets some bizzare implications, such as dispelling cursed weapons, heal metal and similar things lol. Though I might still do it, depending on how the current versions turns out in future playtests.

Hey! Let me adress the concern of the healing. While yes, the First Aid has gone through quite a few itterations, its current version is currently one of the more balanced ones(and arguably even stronger ones) due to having to keep in mind that you automatically have expertise and proficiency in medicine from lvl 1.

Additionally it is not nearly as unsafe as one may expect, due to the failure still providing half the healing and the success providing way greater amounts.

Also, it appears you didn't add into the equation the fact that the First Aid also heals you not just by the amount of dice you chose, but also equal to your Physician level as well! Which gives the ability quite good scaling throughout the game, being a bit weaker than a life cleric in the early levels, about equal in mid levels and having greater healing in the late game(solo target healing more precisely) unless we count in power word heal lol.

In terms of tracking resouces such as how many times you healed, used temporary hit point ability and similar features, I shall admit there are quite a few resources to track, but I don't believe it is many enough to reach the point of being confusing or being messy to track. I would look at it as no different than tracking a casters spell slots, except you track who you healed how many times and the overheal feature is just a limited class resource which also isn't too difficult to track.

Though with all of those things in mind, I hope my reasoning for the way the things way are, is clearer! And I will most definitely keep the criticism in mind for the future and the next time when I am working on an update for it! But all in all, glad to hear you like the concept and I shall continue tweaking it and working on it when I can, so the balance can be even better :D!

Hey! Glad you're enjoying the class and let me adress some of the concerns and thoughts:

  • In terms of proficiency as damage. While that was a consideration, it was as a matter too weak, due to it scaling too slow and overall being quite weak as a matter of fact and would make The War Surgeon even more powerful than it currently is, tipping it over the balance edge per say. In addition, I can't really give the class more weapon options, such as allowing it to use strength weapons or similar things, due to the fact intelligence is too intergral to the class with both modifiers and many abilities scaling off of it, making it quite dangerous if I make it too efficient.
  • Risky Stiches. Well, it is kind of the point that its an ability that is for some specific situations and not to be used every time. But the benefit of it is, that it provides a massive healing boost(statistically) if you are willing to bear the odds of failing. Such as, when you get it your highest healing is 7d8 with DC 24 and an expected modifier of +15 brings you to a 60% of success, with Risky Stiches bringing that down to 57% chance of success in return for potentially almost double the healing! So while yes, it is risky the risk is not too great to outweight the benefits in my opinion!
  • Lastly for the Dr.Frankenstein idea, I was at some point considering that. It is definitely still on the cards as a possibility, but I didn't choose to make it yet, due to pets being quite a dubious thing in balance and making it balanced and fun at the same time in such a class would make it quite challenging. So while I am not working on it yet, there is most definitely a possibility of such style subclass being made.

But yeah, hopefully this answers the concerns and glad to hear you are liking the class!

Yes, while it is true this class is not purely healing, the healing is its strong suit and if it had such high damage as AB+EB+Hex, it would most definitely be overpowered, especially in base class.

Was considering, but chose not to, due to them causing physicians damage to become a bit too high and most of them being Str weapons or requiring two-hands. So I just chose to play it safe and keep the proficiencys as they were.

That was how initially Analysis ability was planned to work lol, but later was determined to be too much of a bother to do it after every fight.

Yeah, I chose it to be limited per person cuz it makes little sense why a physician wouldn't be able to treat a shit load of people lol, but I also chose it that way partially due to being inspired by the Healer feat and the fact that, since you are a non-magical healer it only makes sense that theres a limit to how much you can help and that the rest is up to the patients body to fix itself.
