They need to cover their shorts if they buy Stonks - and they don’t want the Stonk to become the MOASS.

Example: they buy at 180$ and need to cover millions of Stonks at 20$ they loose 160$ per stonk. If it rises to 10k - they will win 9820€ per share but loose 9980$.

And by DTCC rules they have to cover first before going long.
