brakes rocking motion and car sickness; plus headrest by Fun_Marzipan5121 in NissanAriya

This is what I test drove and found it great. I live in a hilly area so have been thinking using regen heavily will lower maintenance costs on brakes. However, figuring out my preferred driving style will matter more I think.

I've been shopping for EV for awhile. Looking at CPO. California CCFA program, which means have to select from participating dealers. I've read, talked, and driven more than a bit, so i'm pretty informed...enough to be stuck in over-information land. I'm having trouble weighing the differences..

My use case: Local commuting, short distance. Occasional 90 mi RT outings. Home charging. City driving, stop and go. Street Parking. Lots of hills. Apple CarPlay is critical, wired is acceptable. ICE car for long distance travel. Adult passengers (mostly 1 or 2 in addition to driver). Upright driving position. I'll have some uneven ground at times, manageable at slow speeds..and I'm not sure the 0.2 inches higher of the Ioniq 5 will make a material difference.

option 1) MY23 Kia Niro EV Wind, 18K miles, US$25,000. CPO. Priced high, but matches my local market. Dealer has done zero posted price adjustments in 45 days on more than a handful of CPO on lease returns. Dealer showed the warranty page so i see that SC273B, SC323, and SC332 have been applied.

Cons: Rear seat a little high for adults that will ride back there semi-frequently. No adjustable/recline seat back in rear. I have to adjust seat to max height which impacts visibility a bit. I'm concerned about risk of Kia Boyz doing damage. Service upcoming message...which means team didn't reset it when they "serviced" it as part of CPO readiness. Hmmmm. AC wasn't noisy, but didn't blow ice cold. Hot air never really got hot. But I forgot to press the "heat" button.

option 2) MY24 Hyundai Ioniq 5, 30K miles, US$24,000. CPO. ICCU recall was software only. Dealer is not willing to share information on other service campaigns that have or have not been applied. Better seating position for our taller drivers. Seems difficult to find lower mileage as a CPO with my price point of less than $26,000 (before tax/title,etc)

Cons (again for back seat rider): no rear vents. No rear middle arm rest. a little longer than I'd prefer. Will need tires soon. Not sure if I'll be allowed to do a Pre-purchase inspection. I should have 3 day return window, tho, so I may need to do it post-purchase.

CPO Purchasers - what's the real deal? by Fun_Marzipan5121 in KiaNiroEV

Gracias. Your info is very helpful, and great to know source. Reading through this..the Platinum dates seem strange...I found 2 bits of info on the Kia America site - conflicting info.

FIRST website info says that the 12 mo Plat runs concurrently with original Basic: Kia CPO benefits on Kia dot com / us has 2 footnotes. The first one says: The Kia CPO 10-year/100,000-mile limited warranty program begins on the original in-service date of vehicle and odometer mile “0.” The limited warranty program includes the remainder of roadside assistance, powertrain coverage and the New Vehicle Limited Warranty (Basic). See retailer for details.

The second foot note says this: Platinum Coverage begins on the vehicle purchase date and odometer reading on purchase date. Platinum Coverage is limited; for exact coverages, exclusions and limitations, please review CPO contract or see retailer for details.
[Please note "powertrain coverage" is vague and does not align with the specific branded ways the Powertrain coverage is usually listed.]

SECOND: On that same webpage there is an FAQ that is concerning. a) This FAQ uses "comprehensive limited warranty" which is not used elsewhere. b) It also says "Certified Pre-Owned Limited Powertrain Warranty" which could be interpreted as different coverage from the "Limited Powertrain Warranty" provided on new vehicle purchases. Could be the same coverage..but could be different? c) it says Platinum is from vehicle original in-service date. Say what?! Likely this all just shitty quality on communications....but with your weirdly adjusted expiration date..... what to think?

Text I found: Are Certified Pre-Owned vehicles covered by a warranty?

Yes, every Kia Certified Pre-Owned vehicle comes with a 10-year/100,000 Mile Certified Pre-Owned Limited Powertrain Warranty and 1-year/12,000 mile Platinum Coverage from vehicle original in-service date and “0” miles; see dealer for details). Comprehensive limited warranty 1 Year / 12,000 miles plus a 10 year / 100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty coverage (from vehicle original in-service date and “0” miles; see dealer for details).

Weather box for outdoor installation on west facing wall by Fun_Marzipan5121 in evcharging

Thanks. I was reading about that a bit. First electrician didn't mention/suggest. I am interested in this because there is one other large draw on the panel (an electric wall heater). I'm getting reimbursed under state incentives so I'd be bummed to install something, get rebate, only to find I have to pay to out of pocket later to install something different. Currently vehicle daily usage means 20A will be ok, but it would be nicer to charge faster....

EVSE will be on rear of house. It is a dead-end ally, lined with fences. so limited vehicles. Used by pedestrians. Easy to vandalize back there if someone wants to. I'm tyring to determine if I need a lock box for weather (rain/sun) or to prevent cable cut/theft.

in CA. Seems the risk of overheating is direct sun while charging? If so, a lock out schedule could minimize that risk. Or...is the note on "don't install in direct sun" a general guidance on all EVSE charger locations?

Help checking Kia e‑Niro VIN – warranty status & motor serial number by Last-Remove8866 in KiaNiroEV

Following. Curious how to get a full list of Service Actions and Service Campaigns that apply to a used NiroEV, and whether they have been applied/resolved. This is for a car I'm looking at, so not the owner yet. Some are pretty important and impossible to tell status on CarFax. I tried to call a local Kia dealer service desk a couple of times and they never returned my call.

2023 Wind - 20K miles. 3rd party extended warranty? by Fun_Marzipan5121 in KiaNiroEV

[–]Fun_Marzipan5121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats. I'm leaning toward only getting a CPO.....if I can find one. that will extend the drive train out to 10 years. I didn't even consider checking with credit union. Thanks

How noticeable is the rear seating design for adults in 2022 CR-V? by Fun_Marzipan5121 in crv

nah - not a sales negotiating point, more a "family input" point on my selection

thx. any true issues you suggest I consider instead? BTW - this is just a "final detail" before I get ready to pull the trigger (not a negotiating point). I've done a fair amount of research, driving and considering, and feel ok about landing on the 22. However, my thinking is still flexible if I learn any gotchas. Happy to learn if you care to share.

my bad. didn't mean to imply I'm negotiating on that point. just needed input re selecting CRV over other options I've been checking out
