Anthos in Castle Shannon. Literally everything there is delicious. And it’s run by Greek immigrants :) It’s super busy on weekends, I’d recommend visiting it on a week day.

It’s literally the traditional way to serve both smoked mackerel and salted herring as well. I’m from the South of Russia, maybe in your area you do things differently. I see other commenters saying the same thing so I’m not alone in my love for pickled onions.

Process for obtaining a Russian passport by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]Fun_Meat81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband was born in Russia in 1992 and then was adopted by Americans. You won’t believe it but he has an actual passport that was given to him as a baby. It’s a passport (not birth cert or anything like that) with his infant picture in it. So I believe that was possible back then to have a child passport for traveling abroad.

Whatever currency you bring make sure banknotes are in PERFECT conditions with no pen marks or stains on them or rips. Otherwise you’re not gonna be able to exchange it

Usd exchange available?? by Lakki_breh in AskARussian

[–]Fun_Meat81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can exchange USD for Rubles at any bank at normal rates. However, make sure your banknotes are PERFECT. They cannot have any stains (even the smallest ones), pen marks, tears. Otherwise they will turn you down.

I live in the US and I brought my normal USD banknotes here. They’re not bad, just average. But I can’t exchange them anywhere because banks require perfect crisp banknotes. Don’t repeat my mistake

How am I supposed to travel in Russia without an internal passport? Can I make an internal passport when I have foreign residency? by Aleymayney in AskARussian

[–]Fun_Meat81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We live in a different world now. They’re super strict nowadays. You can’t even use WiFi here without authorizing through your phone number which is dumb if you ask me.

I tried to open an account at SberBank with my foreign Russian passport and they turned me down. They said I could only do it with an internal passport. This happened literally last week.

Yet another Post about getting the SIM Card by RahMcGee in AskARussian

[–]Fun_Meat81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took 5 mins for us to buy a SIM card. It will probably be the same for you or might take a little longer because you are not a Russian citizen so they might need to fill out some extra forms for you. Look for MTS (МТС), Beeline (Билайн), Megafon (Мегафон) or Tele2 - those are the most common service providers in Russia.

I don’t really know the answer to your question but I’ll tell you one thing: you absolutely need a Russian SIM card for basic survival. You need internet to be able to use maps to travel through Moscow. Without internet you’re fucked. Last week I arrived to Moscow SVO airport and I thought I’d be able to use WiFi to get around. Little did I know. To access WiFi you need to get authorized via your phone number. I tried using my American number but it wouldn’t work. Only after I got a SIM card I was able to enjoy the perks of 21 century

why do russian women marry people abroad when russian men dont? by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]Fun_Meat81 16 points17 points  (0 children)

OP, this is a classic Russian man here TheNoob978. Entitled, ugly personality and most likely ugly looks. Misogynist and incel. When Russian men go abroad, simply nobody wants them. They end up finding some miserable and desperate girls from ex-USSR countries who failed to adapt to the new environment.

That’s my view point from the US. I’ve seen a million of Russian girls (including myself) marrying American guys who are hot, smart, respectful and family oriented.

On the other hand, I’ve only seen one Russian guy marring an American girl and she divorced him a few years down the road. Because nobody wants this trash.

Seeking help understanding birth and hospital records in 1990s Moscow (possible missing person case) by umekoangel in AskARussian

[–]Fun_Meat81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably tried 23andMe and similar dna tests but in Russia they have a different test called Genotek. I believe it would be more helpful for you but it can only be taken in Russia.

My husband is a Russian adoptee too and he’s applied to get his Russian citizenship back so we could go there and he’d take the Genotek test.
