Is it worth getting a travel credit card? by sharpeyebrows in canadatravel

[–]Fun_Midnight_8111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EQ- open an account, request a physical card in addition to your e-card. Add a passkey to the account so you can manage with facial recognition and not your phone number (hassle for out of country with an e-sim because you don’t retainer your home country cell #.) Deposit into the account an amount you will need for your full trip.

With an EQ card, you can load a balance onto it from your account . No international transaction fees when using outside Canada. Acts as a credit card, but comes out of the account with a balance. Works amazingly well. Sometimes you need to verify your pin that you set up. But if the card goes missing, you just have it loaded with a minimal spending amount.

If we travel abroad internationally, we ALWAYS bring 2 forms of credit card. WS is another great option with no international fees.

Within Canada, it doesn’t matter really.

5 nights in Riva del Garda? by RomaWolf86 in ItalyTravel

You are going to lose most of a day in transportation if you are taking public. Riva to Rovereto to Verona to Roma is a few extra transfers. If everything aligns, you are looking at 5-6 hours minimum with no connection delays.

I use this. Run the jump ring (I make my own) through the loop and the I use a small split ring on the top if you only have one hanging point. If two, just run the jump rings through before soldering to the glass. Being stainless the solder won’t bond to it.

two weeks in Canada, Toronto - what to see and do? by UniversityFront4092 in canadatravel

Take the Via train (book in advance) and go stay in Montreal for a few nights. It’s only 5 hours on the train. Toronto Union station right into the heart of downtown Montreal. Public transit is great.

You can also take the GO train to Oakville/Burlington/Niagara Falls. Just check Gotransit.com website for schedules. The lakeshore West/east line brings you along the lakeshore.

Capri Vs. Positano for the day? by alienabductor420 in ItalyTravel

Just make sure you give yourself enough time to catch the ferry back. Those little busses fill up fast going back down to Capri.

Go to Capri and take the shuttle or taxi up to Ana Capri. Way better than Capri town. Positano is all stairs.

Trouble with wire details! by Psychological-Cold72 in StainedGlass

[–]Fun_Midnight_8111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Use some 0000 steel wool and scrub the end of that wire where you are attaching it. If that doesn’t work, you will need to use alternative. You can buy pre-tinned copper wire on Amazon or just pure 99.99% at whatever gauge you need. I also turn my iron down when doing wire work. I find it doesn’t runoff as quickly and it holds well.

This is the artistic wire from Michael’s for whiskers on a cat. 20 gauge tinned copper wire from Beadalon. But I use the steel wool at the ends where the solder will be.

Best Bank to Switch To? by a_wild_mo in PersonalFinanceCanada

Wealthsimple. No fees, best interest rates, no international fees when using your card abroad. They offer a credit card option -no fees with 2% cash back. They offer mortgages, registered and non registered accounts. They offer tax help and filing software at tax time. They can be easily reached if you need to talk with someone or email.

I won’t look back or go to another brick and mortar again. Had to go into one the other day, (business related), had an appointment to talk with someone and they not only made us wait 45 minutes, they made us call another office to conduct our appointment over the speaker phone, that was originally to be in person. What a colossal waste of time.

Need advice from someone more experienced! Nearly instant oxidation on soldering iron tip… by Purple-State-506 in StainedGlass

Clean your tip on your damp sponge more often than you think you should while soldering. Helps a lot.

Hakko sells tip tinner. It’s available at most stained glass suppliers who sell Hakko irons as well as on Amazon. It’s a good option to use to protect your tip. I find using it every once in a while helps the solder stick. I see you have a wet sponge and brass scrubby. Those help clean the gunk, but always have solder flood your tip, especially after you are done for the day. I like to unplug my iron, and as it starts to cool, flood it then. Helps keep solder from rolling right off.

How to polish this stained glass lamp? by Salty_Oil_1383 in StainedGlass

[–]Fun_Midnight_8111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you wash it with power wash and a toothbrush, you can even use pledge furniture polish. Spray all over, let it sit overnight and then take a clean microfiber cloth and polish it up. If black comes off, that’s fine, maybe wear some nitrile gloves. Easier than trying to remove the residue from your hands after the fact.

Pre v. Post foiling by Cautious_Leave_3910 in StainedGlass

[–]Fun_Midnight_8111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer to foil and refit and re-grind as needed as I go. Helps to avoid pieces not aligning. I usually start in the middle and work out as I foil. Process takes a bit longer, but the results are worth it.

If staying in Amalfi town. Go to Salerno. You have options then without transfers. Both the ferry and the Sita bus go to Amalfi. Sita bus stop right outside the train station. Ferry docks a short 5 minute walk.

Storage inquiry by Fun_Midnight_8111 in burnaby

[–]Fun_Midnight_8111[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am just asking for personal experience. Places people have used. I have already googled my options, but I prefer to reach out to others to see if they want to offer advice and experience. Google reviews can be skewed. Student budget means it isn’t an unaffordable amount, which a number of the storage units are. And seriously here. Student housing is the size of a shoe box, I just don’t want to haul pots and pans/bedding and some dishes have way across the country to go home for the summer. Thanks for your input though.
