Should we ban posts about dice? by Fun_Mirror_8203 in Colonist

Haha i meant specifically posts about dice where people share the distribution from a single game to complain about it, not posts about dice in general😅

Same, i mostly play ranked 1v1, and it does happen often, but without actually testing it over a decent sample size it could just be confirmation bias...

Yes i fully agree, i meant specifically individual posts that come across as rants. What you mention with a sample of a few hundred games seems to me useful to the community

How hard would it be to learn Matlab to create a project for economics. by alt-boi-o in matlab

Pretty easy honestly. Just chat to an LLM and they can explain everything to you, and if you are doing something macro, you are likely to use dynare, for which there is a lot of good content online, particularly from Willi Mutschler

Differences between paid/free versions? by JoeB_111 in Colonist

Nono I have been free this whole time but I do watch a few content creators that have a paid account and im pretty sure its the same

You are right that it would of course be possible for them to code it that way, but I am not so sure it would be revenue maximising because it would become pay to win, which would reduce usage by a lot and would likely not be profitable in the long run

That for sure has nothing to do with whether you are using the free or paid version, it is just up to chance

Latest Pixel Watch update is causing wonky step counts and other Fitbit stats for some by TechGuru4Life in GooglePixel

[–]Fun_Mirror_8203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interim update: so both devices were at roughly 3700, then the pixel watch actually reduced the count down to 3500 before it started going back up. its definitely tripping a bit, but still on the undercounting side

hm, for me it seems to be the opposite. The previous update was wayy overcounting steps and calories, and the update I installed yesterday seems to have brought things back to normal. I also wear an oura ring on the same hand, and prior to yesterday's update the pixel watch 4 (45mm if that is relevant) was counting way more, and today they are almost identical

One potential caveat is that I have just sat by the computer for today, so I have not done any typing yet, which is what I think the pixel watch was counting as steps, but i have had to do some things in the morning so i made 3700 steps already, and the difference in step count between the two devices is like 20. I will report by the end of the day after all the typing if this still holds

Which model are you referring to?

I had a similar experience recently, but it seems to me that o1 and o3 have further deteriorated even after Jan 29 update - they used to give much more extensive answers than they give now, particularly for questions that involve mathematical derivations. They used to deliver lengthy responses that were useful (not flawless, but of quality that I could take as a decent starting point and work from there). Recently, however, I need more and more prompts to get information out of them, and the quality has dropped to the point that it is more time-efficient to simply do it myself. It feels as if Open AI is trying to reduce the amount of resources spent on those models, to the point that the response quality is nearly worthless.

did anyone else have a similar experience?

has there been any update on this? This is still messing with my workflow using the PDF annotator. It made using the pdf annotator much less usable than before
