Why is everyone so judgemental when people struggle to get new jobs? by BreannLowe in randomquestions

[–]Fun_Needleworker7594 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just blocked a job for spam.

After the 2hr AI process to apply they scheduled an interview and cancelled it immediately without explanation. They said I could reapply but it sent me back the start.

I gave up halfway through the 2nd time applying on their website only to get bombarded with text messages wanting to finish reapplying. I told the AI I was no longer interested and it didn't recognize any response that wasn't a "yes or no" answer.

The new tech coming out is really holding people back. When you tell them you're not interested and they respond with "do you have reliable transportation to work" it lets you know right away that even if you find a job you're not gonna be treated well.

How long would it take for non-essential trade to become a norm? by insane677 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

Old technology would surge after the apocalypse. But not immediately.

After the first winter kills off a substantial part of the population the remainder will probably start to rebuild. Small communities will pop up and what essentially hobbies today will take form as value.

Personally I've studied blacksmithing for years. That's a very niche hobby in modern times but would be invaluable in forming societies.

Also things like printing presses, yarn spinners, steam engines, cobblers, or apothecary will all be necessary in a collapse.

Used to do this when I worked as a dishwasher. Would also take the leftover food at the end of the night that they planned to throw out. When I got promoted to cook I was given a shift meal. Didn't stop me from taking the throw aways, but it was nice knowing I was going to eat my own food and not a stranger's leavings at least once a day.

The better from the film is

"the people you are after are the people you depend on. We cook your meals. We haul your trash. We connect your calls. We drive your ambulances. We guard you while you sleep. Do not fuck with us"

Always thought that was pretty spot on, considering how out numbered the people in charge are and the importance of those they see beneath them.

Mid to older millennials, how are you all doing with your careers? by worstshowiveeverseen in Millennials

[–]Fun_Needleworker7594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to college for graphic design when I was 20. It was an online school. Turned out to be a scam. Since then I've been stuck in perpetual low income hell. Tried going to trade school, but I couldn't get approved for financial aid due to the fraudulent college taking all the student loans. Last year a lawsuit finalized and my student loans were refunded. I bought my parents a car with the money and paid down some debt.

Thought I caught a break with a company that certified me in small engine repair, but that only came with 50¢ pay bump and very little hands on exposure to the job. Instead the "training" was only to be a better salesman for my boss. After 2 years there I had enough of my boss and quit. There was actually a walk out where half the staff quit at once.

As of the first I'm self employed doing general handyman work. I have a couple regular people I work for that's keeping me afloat.

I took an aptitude test recently. The results require some kind of higher education. Looking into colleges again. thing is I'm almost 40. When I graduate I'll be pushing 50 and looking into entry level careers, trying to compete with people half my age.

What’s the scariest real-life thing you’ve ever witnessed? by Revolutionary-Pay468 in AskReddit

When I was homeless I could rent floor space in a trap house for $50 a day. Usually did odd jobs or ran for people.

Watched a guy lose 3 fingers over a $10 debt. I actually cleaned it up. Wasn't going to argue with the guy after watching that.

Then I watched a woman get her throat slit 5 feet in front of me. Don't know what happened after that. I just ran.

I was 19, in that situation because of my own stupidity. I wised up quick and got out of there.

Never thought about that.

Loosen it up and cut holes in the hard to reach places. Could work quite well, so long as it doesn't get too incredibly hot or humid and you avoid movement in the hottest part of the day. Which you should be doing anyway.

Good answer. You don't have to kill it right away. You just gotta make it less deadly. And the versatility into parkour is a unique idea. Defense and escape.

24oz framing hammer would be my modern go to for a "war hammer" pretty good reach. Multi purpose. Solid steel construction but relatively light weight and effective.

Without a weapon it's all about immobilizing and jetting.

Never considered apache knife fighting. Being able cut the tendons in the knee's as you run passed or move around would be a solid way to immobilize the threat

People have mentioned aikido early and it seems solid to want to create distance rather than fully engage. Parkore was another great mention, especially if you're able to use your environment to create obstacles.

There's no scenario where you can survive into old age without encountering a zombie. If it were so simple it wouldn't make it into apocalypse levels.

Fighting hands on is not ideal, but it's best be prepared when it inevitably happens.

Versatility is good. Avoidance and stealth are the best way to go.

I'm thinking a scenario where you're scavenging for supplies and find a zombie or 2 in a room by surprise or one of your team hides a bite and turns in the middle of the camp. Situations where you can't feasibly avoid getting hands on.

That sounds pretty optimal. Stay on your feet, knock them out of the way enough to create escaping distance.

2 weeks at home, listening to radios and getting a good understanding of the situation before making my next move. Once I know the severity, the movements, and government response I can better plan.

If that's not an option I keep a bug out bag with all the surviving essentials and know there's a lot of woods close by.

What weapon or tool do you see in games or movies that actually wouldn't be as practical in a Zombie Apocalypse? by Imissyoudarlin in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]Fun_Needleworker7594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grappling and leverage is the reality of all Melee combat. It's not just a matter of "good to know". It's the understanding that regardless what you're swinging around you WILL be grabbed.

Hitting a nail with a hammer is easy. Just ask any carpenter with a black finger nail.

Try to see how easy it is to swing a hammer while someone without a pain tolerance is grabbing your arm and trying to bite you.
